Chapter 21 - Test

An event from the past.

The story is about a girl saving Karl just as he was about to be attacked by a wolf.

He was alone in the place until the girl appeared and saved his life from the wolf, whose eyes began to glow with intent to pounce and kill.

In the blink of an eye, a single strike split the wolf's body in half, from head to tail, turning it into a fish ready for grilling.

The master appeared in the scene, ready to strike Karl and the girl.

The master said angrily, "Look at yourself! Shaking like damn women!"

"Is that all you have! I believe inside you, you're nothing but a woman! Do you want to be a little girl, huh? Karl!? Is that what you want?!"

"You were saved by a damn child!"

Djaaam a sound symbol for a kick delivered by the master aimed at the girl's jaw.

Karl got up from the ground to rush towards the girl to support and protect her.

"Do you not feel ashamed! You should be ashamed of yourself!"

"Please stop, my teacher, stop abusing her! If this girl hadn't come to the place, I would be dead now! I owe her my life...!"

"Aahhh" a sound symbol for a grip on the neck.

The master grabbed Karl by the neck and lifted him high with one hand. "You're just a foolish child! Don't you realize that you will be the chosen heir! If rumors spread that you were saved by a little girl... your miserable life won't be enough to compensate for the damage and shame that will befall our reputation."

At the peak of his anger, he said, "You were late as usual for your mission, and I worried about you, so I went out to look for you... and what did I find here!!!? Damn you!! Do you want me to lose face like last time?"

With difficulty and in broken words, Karl replied, "You're a terrible person! You sent me here knowing that this field is home to wolves... and... even though I'm not good enough to overcome them."

With violence, Karl was thrown to the ground by his master. "You rotten brat, the girl managed to overcome them, so why can't you?"

The master pulled a knife from his pocket and approached the girl...!

"Sir... no!"

He placed the knife against the girl's neck.

In a loud voice, she exclaimed, "Sir... no... what are you trying to do!?"

"Shut your mouth and listen to what I have to say... I will take your fight... and erase it here and now!"

"What, sir?? What do you mean by shame? What do you mean by reputation? What does face-saving mean? When you kill a little girl for that? What is the value of honor if you dare to do such things?!"

Like an arrow, the boy Karl surged forward in a moment charged with tension and emotion toward his master... trying desperately to push him away from the girl. His thin arms stretched out in front of his chest, attempting to shove the master back with all his strength.

His eyes were wide, and his mouth was drawn in a pleading expression. His tousled blond hair flew with his swift movement, adding a sense of chaos.

The master thrust his right hand forcefully backward, pushing his open palm against Karl's chest with great strength, causing him to fall to the ground from the impact...

"Get out of my way! Maybe it's as you said, boy, but if it's a matter contrary to a warrior... I won't live out my days as a bodiless old man!"

The girl knelt on the ground while the old master placed his knee on her back, gripping her hair, lifting her head slightly off the ground while placing the knife against her neck...

"I'm sorry! Good luck has abandoned you, girl, but what you did for this weak boy was a good deed; your soul should ascend to heaven."

The girl turned her face at a 90-degree angle, as a last chance for the old master to spare her life, with a pleading look and a face smeared with mud...! The master stopped, astonished, as if the one about to be slaughtered was his own son...!

"I... I know you! What is your name, girl?"

"Audrey!"

"No! Your father's name?"

"Chan...!"

Surprised, he turned to Karl. "Hmm! Karl... we will leave this girl's fate to the gods."

The master tied Audrey by her feet to a branch of a nearby tree, hanging three meters off the ground, blood dripping from her mouth...

"Hmm! Did you see, Karl...? Over time... the smell of blood will draw all the wolves from miles away to swarm this place... She will have to fall from that branch sooner or later... at that moment, that horde of wolves will tear her flesh apart..."

His eyes were up, where Audrey was hanging. "Is that why you put her there? Just for that? I can't believe you're like this!"

"Nonsense, boy. Listen carefully, let's assume she's lucky enough to get down from there... there will be countless wild wolves waiting below, and she will have to fight that entire horde."

His face showed expressions of pain, his eyes wide open with bloodstains on his face...

"Yes, she can kill one or two like she did when she saved you... but they say what's here could be no less than fifty, they fill this area. If she manages to carve her way through and escape, then I will give her my full respect and admiration! Ha ha ha."

"But you've beaten her senseless, you've exhausted her with your blows, how can she fight now?"

Bam! a sound symbol for a slap received by Karl.

"It doesn't matter; if she fails, she will just be another annoying child like you, a useless boy who can't overcome a single wolf... even with a sword in his hand…"

"But in truth... I can't wait until tomorrow. Ha ha ha!"

The Next Morning,

Karl returned quickly, kneeling with his head bowed, unable to speak from exhaustion... after the master had sent him to the place where he left Audrey...

"Well? What's wrong with you? You're shaking?"

"Blood... blood everywhere... torn limbs..."

"Hmmm! A lot of that then, ha ha, what a sad farewell for the girl."

"And so... what did you do about it?! Did you dig her a grave?"

"No, no, sir."

In a euphoric mood from the taste of victory, he said, "Well done."

"No, it wasn't just one body; there are fifty heads...!"

"Bwah ha ha, that's unbelievable! I haven't seen her face since she was two years old! I can't believe what's happening! But now there's no doubt about it! She is truly Chan's daughter!"

Many questions filled Karl's mind; he had no idea what his master was talking about!

"Should I tell you the story, Karl? I never took you with me to see him, but... I met an older brother named Wang, who was expelled from the Dragon Sword School (the school of Eva's grandfather and father). Wang thought he could pull himself together, so he sent his son Chan, who was a baby at the time (Audrey's future father), to the Dragon Sword School to pave his way into the clan... A smart man!"

"When the son (Chan) grew up, he married and had two children, the first child was a boy and the second after five years was a girl...

That first son was just as weak-willed as you, but he was a diligent boy, he truly worked hard, even being chosen to be the future master of the Dragon Sword School."

"One day, the students of the Sword School encouraged the future master of the school to engage in a fight with his younger sister, who was five years his junior, a fight just for entertainment, but it was never meant to be a friendly match.

It was a tragedy... In three consecutive rounds, the older brother could not defeat his younger sister! To the extent that in the final round, the younger sister won with the very first strike of her sword."
