Cherreads

Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Varians

I used a cloth to wipe away the mud on my face.

Why is it raining today of all days?

I looked over to Laura who was reading the newspaper.

Her expression giving a hint of curiosity and interest.

"What got you reading that?" I said.

"Huh? Oh! It's nothing, he he he." She tried to laugh it off.

What are you thinking about? What was she so interested in?

Almost like she wants a war to start.

I pointed my fingers at her.

"You are definitely planning something that I would not like!" I said.

She scoffed at me.

"Of course not!" She laughed again.

Creak!

I looked over to my left to see Sabine drenched.

"It's raining hard today!" Sabine said.

"Mom, what were you doing out there?" I asked.

"Oh! I was just helping a persons carriage that got stuck." She replied.

"Lukas, I think you should talk to her about this." Laura waved the wet newspaper.

"I'll just stay in my room and contemplate about something."

Huh! Don't leave me here to talk about this!

Before I even knew it, she dashed upstairs to her room.

"What are you gonna talk about? Is something wrong?" Sabine said confused.

"Uh...Yeah, there is something wrong." Before I handed her the newspaper.

She looked and read it with curiosity.

"Hmm...I see." She sighed.

"So let me guess, you're afraid that we won't be getting free education anymore?"

"Yes! I wanted to ask if I should get a job! Like in a factory doing labor!" I said.

"Well...I don't really know. But it is certainly heading towards war, I know that for sure.

Only time can tell. So at the mean time, you should go to school and I'll think about this further." She said.

I thought for a second before I nodded.

Only time can tell.

RIIIIINNGG!!!

The school bell rang through the hallway.

Then a second later, large rumbling are heard before every door along the hallway opened.

Pouring out many students, eager to go home.

I got out of my classroom and moved through the crowd of students.

"Yo! Lukas!"

I heard a boys voice yell out behind me.

When I turned around, I saw Tomas waving his hands around before running up to me.

"How have you been lately?" He said.

"I'm alright right now but did you heard the recent defunding yesterday?" I said.

"We did, my mother couldn't stop complaining about this and being worried." Wesley said.

"Yeah, my mother looked very eager about this though." Gideon said.

"Yes but the problem is that we'll probably won't be getting free education anymore." I said.

"You're not wrong, my father said he will find a job for me in the industrial district." Tomas replied.

"I don't know about me though, my parents haven't talked much about this but I'll also probably get a job too." Wesley followed.

"I'm still going to school though thanks to my mothers background!" Gideon said.

Good, Gideon will most likely die doing manual labor.

"They should go to war by now."

I heard a students voice from the crowd.

I looked over to see two students having a conversation.

But they weren't the only one.

Nearly every students in the crowd was having a loud conversation.

"They're defunding many industries, I wonder how it's gonna affect the economy."

"Have you heard the recent large and fast productions in the industrial district? They're pumping out more work lately."

"My uncle just got called up in the military, I wonder what he is doing right now."

I heard many different conversation of the same subject.

"Come on guys, lets just get out of here." I said.

They nodded and followed me behind as I walked before finally getting outside.

When the ray of sunlight finally hit my skin, I looked around.

"Is something wrong?" Gideon said.

"Hmm? Oh, it's nothing. Just curios." I said.

When I was looking around, I saw a group of students gathering around in a circle.

"Woah, what's happening here?" Wesley said and got closer to the commotion.

I followed behind with Gideon and Tomas doing the same.

"You know what you did Varian!"

As I got closer and closer, I heard an argument inside the circle.

When I finally got there and looked through the horde.

I saw a student on the floor with bruises on his face.

"Varian bastard!" Another student shouted.

He seems to be the one who pushed him to the floor.

Just because he was a Varian? How stupid.

"Look Hermann, I didn't do anything! How come your targeting me?" He shouted, still on the floor.

"Tsk, you make me mad Milan!"

Hermann ran up to Milan and got up top of him.

Before Hermann started punching him.

"Woah hey!" I shouted and pushed away the crowd that was blocking my way.

I got close to Hermann and grabbed his shoulder.

Hermann immediately turned around.

"What do you want!?" He shouted at me.

This little prick!

I slammed my fist right into his jaw.

Hermann fell down the ground and let go of Milan.

Milan immediately got up and got behind me.

"Fuck! What was that for! He's a Varian!" Hermann yelled whilst trying to stop his bloody nose.

"Or maybe you're a fucking idiot!" I yelled back.

He clenched his teeth tight before getting up.

"So you wanna fight huh!?" He screamed.

Everyone that surrounded us shouted in unison.

"FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"

He scoffed before charging at me.

I held both of my fist near my face, ready to strike at any moment.

But suddenly, Hermann got struck by the side of his face.

My eyes widened in shock but when I looked beside him to see who did it.

It was Wesley who gave the blow.

Hermann gets launched to the ground again and groaned.

"Wesley!" I yelled in astonishment.

I turned my head over to see Tomas and Gideon run up next to me.

"You shouldn't have saved him dude." Tomas said.

"Not your problem, I could have taken care of this myself."

"Sure buddy."

Hermann groaned and saw my and my friends together.

He clenched his fist.

His veins popping out and face full red.

When he got up, he took a deep breath.

He looked over at us deeply before he sneered and giving a tsk sound.

before turning around and left.
