Chapter 2 - Episode 2 - The Voice of Shadows

Something was awake before Aiden opened his eyes.

Not outside.

Not in the room.

Inside him.

He inhaled sharply—

And sat up.

The world felt… misaligned.

Too quiet.

Too still.

His body—

Unharmed.

Aiden froze.

That wasn't possible.

His ribs should have been shattered.

His face swollen.

His muscles torn apart by last night's beating.

Instead—

Only faint traces remained.

Like the pain had been… remembered.

Not lived.

Aiden pressed his side.

Hard.

Nothing.

His breathing slowed.

Something was wrong.

On his desk—

The note.

DON'T QUIT.

The dried blood had sealed into the paper, darker now.

Permanent.

He reached for it—

And the moment his fingers touched it—

The room deepened.

The light shifted.

And something answered.

Shadow recognized. Candidate accepted.

Aiden's body locked.

The voice wasn't heard.

It was understood.

Trial one: Endure.

Trial two: Restrain.

Trial three… Speak.

The voices layered over each other.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Not human.

Aiden's throat tightened.

He forced air—

"—"

Nothing.

Only a broken scrape.

Pain.

Incomplete.

His fingers tightened around the note.

For the first time—

He felt it clearly.

He was being judged.

Breakfast

"Aiden! Breakfast!"

Reality snapped.

The kitchen looked the same.

Felt the same.

But Aiden didn't.

Every sound had depth now.

Voices above—

And something beneath them.

His father spoke.

His mother asked questions.

His brother filled the silence like always.

Aiden sat.

Smiled.

Nodded.

But the whisper didn't stop.

Restrain.

He reached for the salt.

Paused.

His hand moved.

His shadow didn't.

A fraction late.

Then it followed.

Aiden's pulse spiked.

Again.

Slow.

Controlled.

His hand moved.

The shadow lagged—

And then—

It didn't follow.

It stayed.

Just for a second.

Aiden froze.

The shadow on the table—

Twitched.

Not with him.

By itself.

A glass trembled.

Then tipped.

CRASH.

Silence.

Everyone looked.

"Aiden?" his mother asked.

He stared at the broken glass.

His shadow returned to normal.

Perfectly still.

As if nothing had happened.

Aiden slowly nodded.

But inside—

Something had just gone wrong.

Restrain.

This time—

It sounded like a warning.

Hallway

The school roared.

Noise hit him harder than before.

But something moved with him.

Something larger.

The boys from yesterday saw him—

And stopped.

Not fear.

Instinct.

They stepped aside.

Aiden walked through.

The whisper tightened.

Restrain.

His hands clenched—

And for a second—

The lights above flickered.

Aiden inhaled sharply.

Forced control.

Stillness.

Then—

Her.

The girl.

Standing across the hallway.

Watching him.

Not surprised.

Not confused.

Focused.

Her gaze flicked—

Not to him.

To his shadow.

Aiden felt it.

His chest tightened.

She saw it.

He stepped forward.

Forced a sound—

"Th—"

Pain tore through his throat.

He staggered slightly.

Her expression softened—

But her eyes sharpened.

A small, almost invisible movement—

No.

Not yet.

Then—

She turned.

And disappeared.

But this time—

Aiden knew.

She wasn't ignoring him.

She was waiting.

Trial Two — Restrain

The rain came again.

Same place.

Same night.

But everything felt heavier.

Aiden stepped forward.

Wrapped his hands.

The whisper returned.

Restrain.

He struck the bag.

The impact exploded.

Too strong.

The bag tore slightly.

Aiden froze.

That wasn't—

Normal.

He hit again.

Harder.

The shadow beneath him shifted.

Adjusted him.

But this time—

It moved faster.

More aggressively.

Guiding—

Pushing.

Aiden's breathing changed.

Again.

Again.

Again—

The shadow rose slightly.

Without permission.

Aiden stopped.

His chest tightened.

"No—"

The word barely formed.

But the shadow didn't listen.

It stretched.

Reached—

And slammed the bag violently.

BOOM.

The chain snapped.

The bag flew across the lot—

Crashing into concrete.

Silence.

Aiden stared.

That wasn't him.

That wasn't—

Restrain.

Now—

It wasn't a command.

It was urgent.

The shadow surged again.

Aiden stepped back—

"No—"

It moved forward.

Without him.

Toward the street.

Toward—

Movement.

A passerby.

Aiden's heart stopped.

"STOP."

The word tore out of him.

Raw.

Broken.

Real.

Everything froze.

The shadow halted mid-motion.

For the first time—

It obeyed.

Aiden collapsed to his knees.

Breathing hard.

Shaking.

The shadow slowly returned.

Settled beneath him.

Still.

Silent.

Trial two… passed.

The voice changed again.

Closer.

Interested.

Final Scene

Night.

His room.

Aiden stood in the dark.

The note on his desk.

DON'T QUIT.

His hands trembled.

Not from fear.

From understanding.

This wasn't power.

This was something else.

He looked at the wall.

At his shadow.

Still.

Normal.

"…stop."

He whispered.

The shadow didn't move.

Good.

"…move."

Nothing.

Aiden exhaled.

Relief—

Too early.

Because slowly—

The shadow's head turned.

Not following him.

Looking at him.

Aiden froze.

Two trials remain.

But this time—

The voice didn't come from inside.

It came from the shadow.

And it sounded—

closer to human.
