Caleb squinted his eyes, "What else did you set up?"
"You don't need to know what I set up, you just need to know that I won't hurt her," Hans Montrose turned around. "This is a contest between Jared Quinn and me, you don't need to be involved. Just do your duty."
Caleb's responsibility was only for Melody Thorne's safety, and anything beyond that was not his concern unless she asked him to investigate.
"Remember what you said," Caleb left the ward.
Next door, Jared Quinn spent almost the entire night holding Melody Thorne in his sleep, his eyes flickering uncertainly.
"Jared, are you really not going to tell her the truth?" Leon Rivers ventured, "I'm afraid if she finds out the truth, she might not be calm for a while, and she may even hate you."
Hans Montrose is beyond cure, he is plagued by illness, yet before dying, he still unsettles Melody Thorne.
"Tell her the truth and then what? Just so she can be blinded by Hans Montrose's actions?" Jared snorted.
