Chapter 269 - Confession

I sounded desperate. Pathetic, even.

But right now, I didn't care how I came across. Not even a little.

I just wanted Harper to stay. Even if it was only for a moment. She stood there with her back to me, unmoving.

"Please," I said again, quieter this time, stepping forward.

Harper exhaled sharply, the sound heavy with irritation. She turned to face me, a deep scowl settling across her features.

"What?" she snapped. "What exactly do you want to say, Dominic? Another threat to take the children? Or do you plan to remind me again that we're still tied to each other?"

"You are still married to me," I said, the words slipping out before I could stop them.

Her jaw tightened, but she didn't interrupt. Instead, she folded her arms across her chest, fully facing me now.

"I am," she said, giving a short nod. "You don't need to keep throwing that mistake in my face."

Her expression grew colder, like she was about to say more, but I cut in before she could.

"I missed you."
