She had been thinking about it for two days.
The announcement had been made. The court knew, and by now the entire kingdom knew.
She was going to marry him.
She found him in the council chamber late in the afternoon. The official business for the day had ended, and the ministers had all left. Arkan stood at his post outside the door. He looked like a man who had finally accepted that his job now included waiting outside while complicated conversations happened inside.
Ruhan looked up when she entered.
He didn't say anything. He had been doing that lately, giving her the space and her own time.
She had noticed. She decided not to tell him she noticed, though. If she told him, she would have to admit that his behavior was working.
Xiao Zhi sat down across from him.
