The voices outside the stall were getting clearer.
A man and a woman. Their footsteps came through the bathroom door together, sharp on the tiles, the door swinging shut behind them.
"I cannot believe they were actually doing that in the men's bathroom," the woman said. Her voice had the particular energy of someone who had found something outrageous and was going to get full value from it. She was wearing a bright yellow wrap dress, the kind that tied at the waist, her heels clicking with every step.
"We should report them," the man said. He had on a button up shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbows, dark trousers, the kind of guy who looked like he had opinions about things. "I mean we've had sex plenty of times but do you see us going into public bathrooms to do it?"
"Exactly," she said. "There's a standard."
"There's absolutely a standard."
"Okay wait outside," she said. "I need to pee quickly and then we go straight to the front desk."
