They sat at the small table with two plates of reheated pasta in front of them.
Kelly took a bite first, chewed, and made a face. "It's mushy," she said. "I should have turned the gas off ten minutes before instead of letting it sit."
"It's still good," Liam said, eating another forkful. "I missed your cooking."
She looked at him for a moment, the corner of her mouth softening. "Okay," she said. "Fine. I'll allow it."
They ate in comfortable quiet for a few minutes, the kitchen still smelling faintly of garlic, the clothes from earlier still scattered across the floor near the cabinet.
"How was the travel?" she asked, twirling pasta around her fork.
"Life changing," Liam said.
She raised an eyebrow at the phrasing but let it sit. "Okay," she said. "Glad you survived it."
"What about you," he said. "What have you been up to while I was gone."
