Liam sat behind the wheel of the car for a full minute before he even turned the engine off.
The leather under him still smelled new, that sharp factory scent that hadn't faded yet.
His hands stayed on the wheel, fingers spread over the stitching, and he just stared through the windshield at Kelly's building like he was waiting for someone to tell him this wasn't real.
He glanced to the passenger seat.
'Right there,' he thought. 'That's where it happened.'
He shook his head, almost laughed at himself for it, and looked away fast, like the seat itself might call him out.
He wasn't about to sit here replaying that with her about to walk out any minute. He cleared his throat, straightened his jacket, and pulled his phone to text Kelly.
**Liam:** I'm outside.
The message sent.
He set the phone face up on his thigh and waited, eyes flicking to the building's front door every few seconds.
