"I defeated it easily," Liam said.
Elena had her cheek rested flat against his chest, her heart still hammering a rapid, erratic rhythm against his ribs.
She stirred slightly at the words, her hair shifting across his skin, and lifted her head to look at him.
Her eyes were heavy-lidded, the flushed color still sitting high on her cheekbones, but her eyebrows pulled together in faint skepticism.
"You defeated a full-grown bear," she said, her voice still raspy from how hard she had come moments earlier. "Easily."
"Easily," Liam repeated, his hand resting on the small of her back, his thumb tracing the smooth curve of her spine. "I did not even get a scratch."
"Good," she said, tilting her chin up, her weight still pressing comfortably down on him where they were connected. "If you had then you're definitely not ready to fight any of the numbers fighter"
