Chapter 155 - Cap.140 - Preparation for the third exam

(Guren POV)

On the Jonin's side, Kitsuchi pursed his lips and clenched his fists, watching Dosu's actions against his daughter. He glanced at Guren, with the other Jonin from Iwa also appearing offended.

-Is this how Oto treats his guests?- He asked with a hard face, containing his inner anger.

Guren rolled her eyes and said. -The girl wasn't hurt. Besides, for a ninja, she didn't seem to take orders well. She failed the exam and tried to argue with the examiner. I don't think that's a good trait for a chunin. Don't worry, I'll add that to the report for the Tsuchikage.

Kitsuchi was practically boiling with rage, while on Kumo's side, the Jonin seemed clearly pleased to see the event.

Just seeing Iwa suffer would make them happy, but if Kumo actually fought with Oto it would be even better, if the two villages went to war it would make Kumo extremely happy.

Kitsuchi scoffed, but didn't let his anger get the better of him, he looked away, clearly irritated.

Guren didn't care about them, instead, she turned and spoke to all the Jonin in the room. -The teams will return shortly. The instructors of the teams that passed may stay. The teams that failed, on the other hand, please leave the area. However, if you wish, you may remain in the village until the end of the exam. Please do not cause any trouble. Anyone acting within Oto's territory will be eliminated without amnesty.

His last words made some of the weaker jonin swallow hard. Some of them, still clinging to the mentality of great villages, seemed offended, but thinking of Jugo's power, they remained silent.

As soon as Guren finished speaking, the Jonin leaders began to slowly leave, guided by Oto ninjas. In the end, only the Jonin from Konoha, Oto, and the sole Jonin from Taki remained.

Guren waited a moment and began to speak. - The final exam will take place in exactly one month, that's standard practice, but the third exam is not like the others.

-Defeating the opponent is only the first objective, the true objective is to make the opponent give up. If they don't give up, regardless of how much damage they take, the game doesn't end.- Guren continued. - The examiner won't stop them even if someone dies.

The Jonin were surprised, some frowned, and Shikamaru was one of them.

-So the only way to win is to make the opponent give up, but what happens if the opponent is killed?- Shikamaru asked worriedly.

-Elimination for the killer, the goal of the exam is to test various things, to see how much the candidates can endure and if they know when to stop. Different ideologies lead to different results. Some may consider elimination worse than death, others may think it's just an exam, not worth risking their lives. In the end, there's no definitive right answer, but this perfectly illustrates the participants' mindset.- Guren shrugged.

Several Jonin frowned, especially Taki's Jonin, who was feeling a headache. Would Fuu give up? He doubted it. He just hoped the Bijuu wouldn't escape from inside her during the exam, that would be terrible.

-Alright, this is the exam, the competitors will be selected now.- Guren took out an urn and placed slips of paper with the names of each team inside, three from each team.

Shikamaru sighed. -Looks like something complicated is going to happen again.

Guren smiled and spoke. - The objective is simple, I will take two slips of paper from the urn, the jonin responsible for each team will choose a participant and write their name on the back of the paper, the selected names will fight against each other.

Shikamaru's lips trembled. -So we have to choose between preparing for the worst or hoping for the best...

Guren chuckled softly and agreed. The Jonin grew nervous again, this wicked style of play seemed to excite the people of Oto.

While they were talking, the door suddenly opened, and a man walking hunched over with bandages on his body appeared, it was Dosu.

-Weren't you running back with the genin?- Asuma asked, confused, looking at the monitor and seeing Dosu still running with the genin.

-I'm a shadow clone.- Dosu said lightly, sitting down next to Guren.

Guren simply nodded to him before starting to draw out first names.

-Team Dosu and Team Fuu.- the woman said, looking at Dosu in surprise.

Dosu didn't even blink, he grabbed the paper and started writing down a name.

Taki's jonin sighed, picked up the paper, and wrote down Fuu's name. He had observed the teams, and Team Dosu could be considered the weakest team to advance. He hoped Fuu could have an easy victory, which is why he chose her.

Dosu, on the other hand, wrote Nanami's name.

His logic was simple: it would be very difficult for his genin to pass, but there was a good chance that Taki's jonin would choose the scatterbrained girl, she seemed to want to make friends with the others, so it would be less dangerous for Nanami.

That was Dosu's greatest act of kindness, letting her lose less horribly. If Nanami knew this, she would surely cry tears of "joy" at her master's "kindness."

When the papers were handed back, Guren picked up a new one and began to write.
