Chapter 18 - 18 Bitter Gold

He chuckled with the rasp that grew, Ron having now began to notice it, "And that day, when I spent all I had left on a small meal, a kid... a kid! kicked it over and ran and ran, running to... well.

"Now."

Glancing up, Ron just smiled, "Well, nice to hear that, as mean as it may be."

Midas stared at Ron, "Are you, mocking me?"

Ron stood and turned around to the sink as he began washing the pot.

Then turning his head to look back at him.

Midas saw a man with a child's grin plastered across his face, "A little."

Midas rolled his eyes, Ron seeing this kept on a smile, continuing to wash the pot.

"Listen, listen, I meant I'm happy to hear you don't actually hate my lil Olive."

Midas tilted his head, "As much as i have respect for you, the opposite can be said about him."

Ron laughed at this, "Well, you don't hate him as much as i thought." Then he placed the pot to the side, as he floated and dried. "Midas do you think your hate towards my boy is caused by frustration or a feeling of being wronged?"

"When did soldiers begin giving therapy sessions?"

"Starting now."

Midas stared at him longer than before, as dishes seemed to get washed, scrubbed and dried.

Minutes passed as the gold head statue stood there looking.

"...Yes..."

Freezing Ron looked back at Midas, "Yes, what?"

Staring for seconds more his jaw opened, "I felt wronged, but not frustrated. Your boy was just the cause that tipped me over, I do truly regret doing that to your son."

Nodding in acceptance of the apology, Ron continued on with the dishes, then speaking up again, "Then, what built your feelings of being wronged, that a boy spilling a meal caused you to almost kill him?" Ron questioned, this time a sort of darker edge to his voice.

"... You said you have starved before, correct?"

Ron nodded, draining the water, wiping his hands and placing dishes, pots and utensils where they belong.

"Then wouldn't you be grateful towards someone who fed you, in those desperate times."

Placing the last dish into a cabinet, Ron looked at Midas with a raised brow, "Why wouldn't i?"

Nodding to this Midas continued on, "I never experienced hunger of the sort, since our current year–"

"Just say this year." Ron interrupted with a deadpanned face.

Pausing, looking at his expression Midas said, "You and your boy are quite alike."

"Your dead set on thinking I'm his dad or something, uh?"

"No, i acknowledge that your his Uncle, but including that your no less a father to him, maybe more."

Laughing out his gut, Ron had a bright smile, "You don't know how happy I am to hear that!"

Letting the soldier laugh a liver or two out, Midas spoke, "From where I left off, since..." Pausing, for the sake of not being interrupted Midas chewed on his words, "recently."

"There you go!" Ron cheered.

Letting out a chuckle himself Midas continued, "Since recently I have never experienced starvation, but as i child I made sure to compare myself, first out of curiosity, then ambition, but then slowly it became a way of learning, of how to be. So who else then those i have been told are lesser than me since I was born, born with blood of someone above them, since his birth. And I looked upon all of them and I saw suffering, starvation and distrust towards each other, one to another or group to another."

The blue dots in his black golden sockets, glowed greater than the second before again, and again.

"So as young as I was, I feared to fall from my standing, when asked–i do, when needed–I'm there, when told–i obey. Then this one day, i chose to disobey and... nothing, nothing happened, not because no one minded obviously someone would, and the others didn't care or found it amusing. The one who seemed to always want a positive connection protected me, atleast as much as possible."

Then his eyes dimmed faster than they seem to brighten.

"They gave me what I was owed, enough to live, though I was not satisfied, when I saw other children have toys, dolls, games and more, even those below me, I asked for the same... I asked the wrong person."

Sighing he continued, "A lie intertwined with the position I was in, said to come from my protector, I was convinced and I accepted their conditions, i am given only what I'm deserving of, and the one I disobeyed made sure i never did it again, by making me earn what I deserve. I... I grew accustomed to it and enjoyed the benefits, of give and take."

Looking at his hand he went on.

"They took my body, testing what every they desired, new tech not yet or never to be in the market, specifically technology i have seemed to be able to handle more than any other, and they gave me what I wanted, what they thought i deserved and so much... much more. The day my protector found out about this he stripped me of it all, every gold made cybernetic on me and a tear was shed, but I was to out of it to determine if it was out of disappointment or shame due to being blind towards my situation. I felt wronged, and I was in a haze, a drift of adjustment a shock you could say, I felt wronged he said to earn, I give, like others give time for what they want." His voice grew more bitter and poisonous, "I gave my arms, skin, face, legs–My body! Though I was wronged, i wouldn't just–just abruptly do what i did to your boy. There was something else, the feeling of being played a fool, as i realized looking at my meager meal in the alleyway i gave up my flesh for metal soon to rust over a lie, a lie i realized before the moment my meal was to be kicked over by a boy, my protector never said 'To earn, i give' it was the one who loathed my presence since my birth, the one I refused to obey, who said that."

But than locking his jaw, a sort of self loathing gleamed in the blue of his eyes.

"I'm not even sure, if i am angry for being played a fool, or not getting what is owed to me."

Hearing this Ron nodded, as he took a seat, "Emotions are ever present in our lives, some ignore them others the opposite."

"You seem to only acknowledge the last section of my recounting." Midas said finally laying his weight onto the chair.

Ron ever grinning spoke, "Because i heard my boy get in to the story hahaha." He laughed out then finally holding his stomach in pain.

Midas was wondering when that would happen.

Ron spoke as he grinned holding his stomach, "including that, your past has nothing to do with me, from the very moment you met me a story untold began and the center of it is that boy." He pointed a finger at Midas, "You have no right to hold on to the past when you have began a new, for many hold onto the future to escape their past."

Midas's eyes gleamed, "So then what is the next step in this story."

"That question is yours, what do you want to do?"

Midas thought then stood and bowed, "I want to repay the coming debt for my face, so that I am free."

"The only true freedom you'll get is this trip, don't forget the imperial thing, so listen carefully, you owe me nothing. I'm only asking for you to protect my boy by your own free will if you choose to do so." Pausing and contemplating Ron narrowed it down, "Atleast keep him alive."

Midas chuckled, genuinely though the metal rasp, "Then fine I thank you for this freedom, but now where is the boy in questi–?!" Before he finished the question, they heard a shower running and they stood there.

Midas scoffed amused, "Atleast he knows he smelled horrid, i might as well follow his example." He said waving as he walked to his room, "I'm going to bathe, and sleep hopefully."

He arrived at his door pressing his palm against the plate.

SCHHK!

stepping inside, "Good night. " it closed behind him.

CHHCK!

Silence reigned, as Ron sat there with his smile plastered across his face.

Statue like he stayed. Sounds of object colliding rang clearly to him, he doubted that Midas would even be able to hear it with his enhancements. Ron closed his eyes, not to focus or center himself or what so ever one may think.

He just waited to see things differently.

As his sight was overcome with the cover of his lids, he saw, not with his eyes obviously but...

He heard, therefore he saw.
