Chapter 30: Dungeon Stampede Part - 2

(The Day Sam Breaks the Whole Dungeon)

(D-City, Bonzua)

In the wake of the mass stampedes from C, D, and B-rank dungeons, D-City lay in ruins. The greatest city in Bonzua was devastated. Other towns and villages fared even worse, their conditions beyond description. Many wealthy families perished in the chaos. Survivors—rich, poor, and ordinary citizens alike—were huddled together in relief centers, too traumatized to speak. Among them was Lily, wrapped tightly in a blanket.

Her clothes were torn, her face blank as she hugged the thin fabric, replaying her narrow escape. When the monsters had cornered her, their glares fixed on her as she soiled herself in terror, she had heard the dying screams of her mother and father. In that moment of distraction, she ran. The monsters gave chase, but she burst out of her burning home into an even greater hellscape outside.

Fire raged everywhere. Civilians ran for their lives, some cut down by monsters right before her eyes. A group of creatures noticed her and gave chase. Desperate, she stumbled over a rock and fell.

Lying helpless on the ground, the monsters drew near. Lily wept, screaming for help. In her final desperation, only one name surfaced in her mind—Sam's.

"Big brother," she mumbled through her tears, "please… please help me."

Just then, an S-rank player—a middle-aged man with a grim expression—appeared and obliterated the monsters with a single strike. He looked down at Lily. "Hey, little child, are you all right?"

Overwhelmed, Lily lost consciousness. When she awoke, she found herself in a rescue center, a blanket her only comfort.

(Present)

Lily sat in shock, staring into nothing. Around her, people shivered in fear. A painful thought gnawed at her: Even when my parents died and I was about to die, my brother didn't come.

Every time she had been in danger before, Sam had rushed to save her. She had always resented him for it. But this time, he was nowhere to be found. As she realized what she had lost, silent tears began to fall.

(Mary's Friends After They Left Her)

The day Mary's friends uncovered her lies, they left the guild and debated whether they should visit Sam to apologize. Suddenly, they heard an uproar and went to investigate.

A crowd had gathered, discussing a mysterious boy who had entered an S-rank dungeon. Guild staff were being loudly criticized. Then, the S-rank dungeon began to glow with terrifying intensity. Panic spread.

The guards suspected a dungeon stampede. Then, without warning, a deadly aura erupted from the dungeon gate—so horrifying that people trembled and collapsed where they stood. Mary's friends felt helpless, dropping to their knees as their legs gave out.

Minutes later, C, D, and B-rank dungeons across the city glowed and shattered. Monsters poured into the streets. Civilians screamed and fled. Mary's friends watched in horror as the creatures surged toward them.
