Gwen POV:
The Parker living room was quiet except for the hum of the television. The news anchor's voice cut crisply across the screen.
"Yesterday's Hammer Drone catastrophe at the Stark Expo has rocked both the defense and civilian industries. Justin Hammer was taken into custody late last night and faces multiple charges, including reckless endangerment, fraud, and conspiracy. His trial is expected to begin next month."
Images rolled by. Hammer being shoved into a police car, his usual smirk replaced with a pale, stunned look.
The anchor continued. "In related news, Parker Defence Solutions has moved swiftly to acquire Hammer Industries' weapons production facilities, while Stark Industries has purchased its civilian manufacturing divisions. Both companies have already promised to overhaul the infamously unreliable infrastructure."
The camera switched to footage of a stock market ticker. Hammer Industries line plummeted like a sinking ship, while Stark Industries and Parker Defence Solutions climbed steadily.
On the couch, I stretched out with a smirk. "Wow. You didn't waste any time, did you?"
Peter leaned back with his arms crossed. "Hammer left the chessboard wide open. Someone had to clean up the mess before the vultures other than us swooped in."
From behind the paper, Uncle Ben's voice grumbled. " More like Hammer's junk. I wouldn't even trust a screwdriver stamped with his name. And you're buying entire facilities?" He lowered the paper, giving Peter a skeptical look. "You sure you're not letting that brain of yours outrun your common sense, son?"
Peter smiled. "The facilities aren't the problem. It's the people running them and the tech inside. I'm gutting all of it. Upgrading from the ground up. New machines, new standards, new oversight. Once we're done, those facilities will produce things that actually work."
Ben raised an eyebrow. "And if they don't?"
"Then I'll turn them into something else entirely." Peter's voice carried a hint of mischief. "In fact, I've already acquired a failing hydroponics company. I want Parker Defence Solutions to expand beyond weapons. Imagine large-scale, sustainable hydroponic farms in every major city. Reliable food production. Medicine sector too. Not just war."
I nudged him with my shoulder. "Changing the world one step at a time, huh?"
Peter glanced at me, a small grin tugging at his lips. "That's the idea."
The moment the words left his mouth, the familiar chime of the System echoed in his mind.
[REWARD GRANTED: Quantum Lithography Machine.]
[Capability: Allows fabrication of highly sophisticated quantum processors using subatomic-scale lithography. Result: Ultra-lightweight, exponentially more efficient processing units.]
[Upgrade Granted: AI Neural Interface Chip.]
[Efficiency Increase: +50% across all fields.]
Peter inhaled sharply, masking it with a cough as my attention flicked back to the TV. His thoughts raced.
Quantum lithography… that means processors beyond anything currently on Earth. Lightweight, scalable and perfect for all forms of systems. Combined with the neural interface chip upgrade…
He tapped his temple absentmindedly, lost in calculations already forming in his head. This is a game changer.
Uncle Ben folded his paper and gave Peter a long look. "You've got that stare again. The same one you get right before you lock yourself in the lab for two days straight."
I grinned. "Yeah, the 'mad scientist' look."
Peter shook himself from his thoughts, a faint blush rising to his cheeks. "Maybe. But trust me, this isn't madness. It's… progress."
The TV droned on about Hammer's impending trial, but in the Parker living room, the storm had already moved on. Plans were brewing.
Big ones.
