The war ended quietly.
There was no final shout of victory on the battlefield. There was no immediate celebration among the soldiers. After days of constant combat, difficult decisions, and inevitable losses, the end came in an almost calm way.
The remaining demons retreated or simply disappeared into the forest.
Without the command of the Fourth General, the enemy army had completely lost its organization. What once seemed like an unstoppable force now dissolved before our eyes.
I spent the next few hours helping reorganize the lines.
The adventurers gathered the wounded. The elves moved among the trees bringing supplies, healing, and support to those who were still recovering from the final battle.
Liriel spent much of the time using divine magic to stabilize critically injured soldiers. The soft light surrounding her body became a beacon of hope amid the general exhaustion.
Elara walked among the groups organizing patrols that still needed to ensure that no demon had remained hidden in the region.
Rai'kanna stayed near the outer defensive line, helping reorganize the warriors who had fought alongside her.
Vespera disappeared several times among the trees, checking deeper areas of the forest with the silent precision she always demonstrated.
Lyannis helped the elves distribute supplies and transport the wounded to safe areas.
I watched everything as I walked slowly among the groups.
The weight of the battle was still present in the air.
Some adventurers sat on the ground exhausted, looking at the sky as if still trying to believe that everything had truly ended.
Others spoke in low voices, remembering companions who had not survived.
Victory never meant the absence of loss.
Even so, there was something different in that atmosphere.
The Sacred Forest was alive.
The trees remained intact.
The natural mana of the region, once suppressed by demonic energy, now flowed strongly again.
The environment itself seemed to breathe in relief.
When the sun began to set on the horizon, elven messengers arrived at the forward camp.
The King had summoned all the leaders of the defense.
The victory celebration would take place that very night in the Elven Kingdom.
The news spread quickly among the adventurers.
Not as a loud announcement.
But as a well-earned recognition.
After so many days of fighting, everyone knew that moment had value.
We traveled to the elven capital as night fell.
The city seemed different from the day we arrived.
Before, there had been tension.
Alert guards.
Citizens watching every movement with concern.
Now the streets were illuminated.
Crystal lanterns hung from the giant trees that formed the natural architecture of the city. The soft light reflected on the leaves and created an almost magical atmosphere.
When we entered through the main avenue, we were greeted with applause.
Elves of all ages were gathered along the path.
Some bowed their heads in respect.
Others simply smiled.
Children looked with curiosity at the adventurers covered in scars and worn armor.
Liriel walked beside me, maintaining the serene posture she always showed. Elara watched the movement of the crowd with silent attention.
Rai'kanna seemed a bit uncomfortable with so much attention, but kept her gaze fixed ahead.
Vespera walked with absolute calm, as if that entire reception were just another unimportant detail.
Lyannis, on the other hand, seemed genuinely happy to see the relieved faces of the elves.
We reached the great hall of the castle shortly after.
The place had been prepared for a grand celebration.
Long tables filled the entire central space, loaded with food prepared by the kingdom's cooks. Rare fruits from the forest, seasoned meats, freshly baked bread, and elven drinks filled the air with rich aromas.
Soft music echoed through the hall.
Elven instruments produced delicate sounds that perfectly matched the light atmosphere that had finally returned.
When we entered, the entire hall stood up.
The King of the Elves was at the center of the main table.
The two princesses were at his side.
The king took a few steps forward as I approached.
His gaze was firm, but carried something I had not seen before.
Gratitude.
"Today the Sacred Forest remains standing because of all of you."
His voice echoed through the hall.
"But especially because of the one who faced the Fourth General and defeated him."
All eyes turned to me.
The attention no longer bothered me as before.
Even so, I maintained only a simple gesture of respect.
The king continued.
"The Elven Kingdom will never forget this debt."
The entire hall responded with applause.
Soon after, the celebration truly began.
The tables were filled.
The music grew louder.
Conversations arose everywhere.
The heavy atmosphere of war finally seemed to dissolve.
Rai'kanna was already engaged in a friendly drinking contest with some adventurers.
Elara talked with elven archers about combat techniques used during the battle.
Liriel was constantly being thanked by soldiers who had been healed by her magic.
Lyannis seemed fascinated by the exotic dishes of elven cuisine.
Vespera remained seated beside me, observing everything with the same analytical gaze as always.
That was when I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"So… you really did it."
I turned.
Scarlet was there.
Her red hair tied loosely, a drink in her hand, and that confident smile that always seemed to appear whenever she showed up.
She looked directly at me.
"Defeating a General isn't something just any adventurer does."
I simply replied.
"You were in the battle too."
She gave a small smile.
"Yes. But I wasn't the one who brought down the main target."
Scarlet raised her glass and took another sip before continuing.
"Even so… I admit it was an interesting war."
Her eyes gleamed slightly.
"It's been a while since I've taken part in something at this level."
For a few moments, we remained silent, observing the hall.
The music.
The laughter.
The general relief.
The war had ended.
But something in the way Scarlet looked at me seemed to suggest something else.
As if she were thinking about something beyond that celebration.
After a few seconds, she simply said:
"Enjoy the night, Takumi."
Then she took another sip of her drink.
The celebration continued.
But deep in my mind…
I knew that victory was not the end of the story.
It was only the beginning of something greater.
