Chapter 902 - The Dream of Unity

The exit from the underwater library returned us to the deep silence of the ocean, but it was not the same silence as before. There was something different in the pressure around us, as if the sea itself were more attentive to our movements. The natural lights coming from the deep currents seemed softer, almost respectful, as if what we had seen had altered the way the environment perceived us.

The archmage did not accompany us immediately. He stayed behind, inside the living structure, as if he were still listening to something that we could no longer perceive. When we had finally moved far enough away, the liquid corridor slowly dissipated, and the ocean returned to being just the ocean, although nothing inside me could completely accept that anymore.

The princess walked silently beside me. There was something calmer about her now, but also heavier, as if part of what we had seen had fallen upon her shoulders in a definitive way. Scarlet followed right behind, still analyzing everything with suspicion, but less aggressively than before. Rai'kanna seemed restless, as if she wanted to fight against something that still had no form. Lyannis was thoughtful, mentally repeating patterns and connections. Liriel maintained her neutral expression, but I knew her magic was already reacting to what we had absorbed.

After some time, the princess finally spoke.

"You have been silent since we left."

I looked ahead.

"I'm trying to understand what that means."

She answered in a quieter tone.

"So am I."

The ocean floor opened into wide paths, illuminated by colonies of glowing creatures moving in organized patterns. The fish-men city was not far away, but the journey there seemed longer than before, as if space itself had expanded because of what we had learned.

Scarlet broke the silence.

"That library shouldn't exist like that."

Lyannis replied without looking at her.

"It is not an ordinary library. It is an adaptive memory system."

Rai'kanna frowned.

"And isn't that dangerous?"

He hesitated.

"It is dangerous for those who do not understand how to interact with it."

Liriel finally spoke.

"Or for those who are understood by it."

Everyone looked at her for a moment.

The sentence hung in the air, heavy.

The princess continued.

"The archmage said that the ocean does not forget."

I completed the thought.

"And it also does not repeat itself in the same way."

She slowly nodded.

"That means that nothing we saw is fixed."

I replied.

"It means we are dealing with something that changes while we are trying to understand it."

The group fell silent again.

That was when I noticed the change around us.

The ocean began to display different patterns. Currents that had once been chaotic now organized themselves into smooth flows. Small schools of sea creatures moved in clearer synchronization. Even the light seemed to respond to a more defined rhythm.

Scarlet noticed it first.

"It wasn't like this before."

Rai'kanna observed.

"It seems… organized."

Lyannis narrowed her eyes.

"It's not natural."

The princess looked around.

"It's as if something is reacting to what we learned."

Liriel replied.

"Or to what we have begun to think."

I stopped for a moment.

And I realized something unsettling.

The change was not only in the environment.

It was in us as well.

We continued along the path toward a more open area of the ocean, where large natural structures were beginning to appear in the distance. The fish-men city slowly emerged, as if rising from the very depths. Towers made of living coral, bridges made of giant shells, and paths illuminated by pulsating blue energy.

The city was close.

But before we arrived, the princess slowed her pace.

She looked at me.

"You still haven't answered the question I wanted to ask."

I looked back at her.

"Which one?"

She hesitated for a moment.

"What you saw in there… did it change something for you?"

I stopped for a few seconds before answering.

"It changed the way I see what we are facing."

She continued.

"And is that good or bad?"

I did not know how to answer immediately.

Scarlet answered for me.

"It depends on what he does with it."

Rai'kanna crossed her arms.

"Or what they do with him."

Lyannis completed the thought.

"Or what this does to all of us."

Liriel looked toward the depths of the ocean.

"The answer is not clear yet."

The princess looked at me again.

"Then what do you intend to do with it?"

I watched the city slowly approaching.

And answered.

"Understand it to the point where it is no longer possible to ignore it."

Silence returned.

But now it was different.

It was not emptiness.

It was anticipation.

When we finally approached the first structures of the city, I once again felt that strange sensation of being watched by the environment. Not as a threat, but as an evaluation.

The princess took a deep breath.

"Then let's continue."

And we continued.

The fish-men city welcomed us with the same glow as before, but now it seemed less like merely a place and more like a living system responding to our presence.

And as we moved forward, a single certainty became clear within me.

Whatever it was that we were beginning to understand, it was already beginning to understand us as well.
