Chapter 905 - Rewards of the Ocean and Keep Your Eyes Open

Morning came silently over the mansion, with soft light passing through the open windows and touching the wooden floor. The air seemed lighter than it had been in recent days, as if the world had finally allowed itself a pause after so much accumulated pressure in the depths of the ocean.

I was standing on the balcony when I realized how different that silence was. It wasn't empty. It was stability.

Behind me, the soft sound of footsteps announced the arrival of the Fish-Man Princess. She was no longer wearing the formal posture of someone who carried a kingdom on her shoulders. There was something calmer in her gaze, almost too human for someone who ruled beneath the sea.

She stopped beside me and looked toward the horizon.

The open sky seemed infinite after so much time beneath layers of water.

She spoke without looking at me.

"This place is strange. Not in a bad way. Just different from our world."

I replied after a few seconds.

"The two worlds seem different, but in the end, they're just places trying to survive in their own way."

She gave a slight smile.

"You speak as if you've already seen many of them."

I didn't answer immediately. Because in a way, it was true. Since everything began, each region seemed like a new world, with its own rules, conflicts, and truths that changed depending on where you were.

The silence between us wasn't uncomfortable. It was simply respect.

After a few moments, she took a deep breath.

"I wanted to thank you again. Not only as a princess, but as someone who saw her people being saved."

I looked at her.

"You don't need to. Everyone fought together."

She closed her eyes for a second.

"Even so, you were the turning point."

I didn't answer.

Because there were things that didn't need to be discussed when they were already too clear.

The wind passed gently across the balcony, and she finally changed her tone.

"You're leaving today, aren't you?"

"Yes."

She nodded slowly.

"Then this is a farewell."

I shook my head.

"It doesn't have to be permanent."

She looked at me curiously.

"And it isn't?"

"Not while the world remains the way it is."

She seemed to understand what I meant.

Life didn't allow final farewells while the war still existed.

Some time later, we were called to the great hall of the castle. The reward ceremony had already been prepared, but there was nothing exaggerated or theatrical about it. It was something more solid, more political, more real.

The Fish-Man King stood in the center, surrounded by his advisors and generals. When we entered, the entire hall fell silent for a few seconds before bowing in respect.

The king raised his hand and the silence broke.

"Takumi, and everyone who accompanied you, come forward."

We advanced.

The sound of the magical currents supporting the structure of the hall echoed softly in the background, reminding us that everything there existed in a fragile balance between magic and nature.

The king began to speak.

"You arrived at a time when our kingdom was on the verge of losing its stability. What we faced was not merely an invasion, but an attempt to slowly erase our existence."

He paused.

"And you prevented it."

The applause began quietly, but soon spread throughout the entire hall.

Scarlet seemed uncomfortable with so much attention. Rai'kanna simply smiled as if it were natural. Liriel watched everything in silence, as if analyzing the political impact of the ceremony. The princess kept her gaze fixed on the floor for a few seconds before raising it again.

The king gestured, and servants began bringing sealed boxes, carefully protected by preservation magic.

"As promised, the reward will be delivered in full."

When the lids were opened, the light reflected off the gold bars and rare artifacts from the depths of the kingdom. It wasn't merely wealth. It was formal recognition of a pact between peoples.

In addition, documents were presented. Lands near the human coast, areas of commercial influence, and trade agreements between the two kingdoms.

It was more than I expected.

And that said a lot.

The king noticed my reaction.

"This isn't an exaggeration. It's balance."

I simply nodded.

After the ceremony, the atmosphere changed completely.

The great hall became a place of celebration. Soft music echoed between the pillars of reinforced coral, and long tables were filled with typical foods from the underwater kingdom.

Rai'kanna was the first to explore everything without hesitation. Scarlet tried to stop her a few times, but quickly gave up. Liriel spoke with the archmage as if the world around them didn't exist. The princess walked among the guests with a discreet but observant smile.

I moved away from the crowd a little and simply watched.

There was something strange about moments of peace.

Not because they were bad, but because they seemed too temporary.

After a while, the king approached.

"Do you understand what you accomplished here?"

I thought before answering.

"Temporary survival."

He laughed lightly.

"That is already more than many can achieve."

Time passed until the celebration began to die down.

The farewells began to happen naturally, without long speeches. Just simple gestures, handshakes, looks, and silent promises of reunion.

When it was the princess's turn, she stood in front of me for a few seconds.

"Will you come back?"

"If necessary."

She seemed satisfied with the answer.

"Then I'll also be here if necessary."

There was nothing more to be said.

The return journey began the next day.

The magical submarine once again carried us through the depths. Now the path seemed more familiar. The ancient ruins, glowing currents, coral fields, and regions of extreme pressure no longer had the same impact as they did initially.

It was as if the ocean had stopped being unknown.

During the journey, no one spoke much.

Perhaps because everyone was absorbing what had happened.

When we finally crossed the barrier between the bottom of the sea and the surface, the sensation was immediate.

Air.

Space.

Light.

The surface world seemed more chaotic, but also more alive.

The journey back to the human kingdom occurred without incident. The days passed quickly, and when we finally spotted the mansion again, there was a collective feeling of relief.

The servants welcomed us with surprise and joy. Many hadn't expected our return so soon. Others simply seemed happy to see everyone in one piece.

The next morning, I went to the castle for the final report.

The human king listened to everything in silence.

When I finished, he remained silent for a few seconds.

"So the attacks were only part of something larger."

"Yes."

He placed his hands on the table.

"That changes everything."

"I know."

He sighed.

"And yet, you managed to stabilize an important front."

After that, I returned to the mansion.

I distributed part of the rewards among the servants. It didn't make sense to accumulate everything without recognizing those who kept everything running while we were away.

The rest of the day was peaceful.

Too peaceful.

We had dinner together that night.

We talked about simple things.

We laughed about absurd situations from the journey.

For a few hours, the war seemed distant.

But the feeling didn't last.

That night, I went to sleep earlier than usual.

The exhaustion was finally taking its toll.

Sleep came quickly.

And then the dream began.

There was no setting.

There was no world.

Only a presence.

The darkness opened, and he was there.

The Demon King.

Sitting as if he had been waiting for me for a long time.

He smiled.

"You did a good job."

I kept my gaze firm.

"What do you want now?"

He laughed.

"I want to see how far you understand what is happening."

The environment around us began to distort slightly.

"Do you really think that what happened in the ocean was the main thing?"

I didn't answer.

He continued.

"It was only a test. A lateral move. While you were looking down, I was looking forward."

His smile widened.

"And now the board has changed."

A strange sensation ran through my body.

Not fear.

But partial understanding.

Something was being prepared.

Something greater than the ocean.

He leaned forward slightly.

"Keep your eyes open, hero."

The darkness began to fade.

And then I woke up.

The morning light was entering through the window of the mansion.

I sat up in bed in silence.

For a few seconds, I simply breathed.

Then I looked toward the horizon.

And for the first time since the end of the mission in the ocean, I was certain of one thing.

That had not been the end of anything.

It was only the beginning of something much greater.
