Chapter 1021 - The Glacial Dragon

The continuous march through the vast snowy expanses of the thirty-third floor led our squad to the most remote limits of the polar plain, where the translucent ice formations gave way to imposing rocky walls covered by a thick layer of ancient frost. As soon as the group went around the base of a colossal white stone mountain, we realized that the temperature around us had fallen to extreme levels, causing the air blown by the gusts of wind to crack like thin glass blades against our armor. I allowed a serene and contemplative thought to occupy my mind as I assessed the terrain ahead of us: the true greatness of an epic journey is not measured only by the glorious victories we achieve in golden halls, but by the unwavering resilience we demonstrate as we march firmly and united through the coldest and most inhospitable corners created by the shadows, proving that no natural obstacle is capable of freezing the will to win of a truly determined group. Every breath we exhaled instantly condensed into small clouds of white vapor that quickly dissipated in the wind, reinforcing the sensation of absolute isolation that dominated the environment, but the physical proximity and silent support of each companion kept the collective spirit warm and focused on the mission of reaching the top of the tower.

The atmosphere of the place suddenly changed when a gust of hot and sulfurous air cut through the freezing wind, followed by a thunderous roar that made the walls of the mountain tremble violently, causing tons of snow to collapse down the side slopes. Moments later, a colossal silhouette emerged from the shadows of an immense cave located at the top of the rocky wall, unfolding titanic wings covered with blue ice scales and sharp spines that gleamed beneath the diffuse light. It was the boss of floor thirty-three, a formidable glacial dragon endowed with relentless ferocity and absolute control over frost storms, considered by many adventurers to be an insurmountable obstacle due to its almost invulnerable carapace and its freezing breath capable of petrifying any creature within seconds. The imposing presence of the beast filled the valley with a suffocating atmospheric pressure, causing the ground beneath our boots to crack under the weight of the hostile mana emanating from the colossal winged reptile.

"There is the final guardian of this sector," I announced in a firm voice, drawing my sword while gesturing for the group to immediately adopt a semicircular tactical combat formation. "Scarlet and Rai'kanna, remain ready to deliver quick attacks on the blind spots of its hind legs. Vespera and Lyannis, focus fire and concentrated heat spells to weaken its ice armor. Liriel and her assistant, protect the rear with continuous support barriers."

The girls' tactical response was immediate and executed with surgical precision, demonstrating the perfect coordination we had built over countless battles side by side. As soon as the glacial dragon hissed furiously, unleashing a massive torrent of freezing breath in our direction with the intention of paralyzing us instantly, Vespera and Lyannis conjured a double shield of purifying flames that nullified the impact of the icy blast, generating a dense cloud of steam that temporarily covered the natural arena. Taking advantage of the curtain of smoke and moisture, Scarlet and Rai'kanna shot forward like silver arrows toward the monster's flanks, driving enchanted daggers and spears into the gaps between the protective scales, provoking roars of pain and rage from the colossal winged creature as it attempted to break free from the agile attacks.

Advancing through the center of the confusion with firm steps and my mind completely focused, I channeled the maximum internal energy accumulated in my spiritual core, coating the sword's blade with a golden aura of pure power that radiated warmth and vitality amid that icy environment. When the dragon turned its massive body to try to crush us with its spiked tail, I dodged the blow with an agile leap and landed directly on the beast's back, delivering a devastating vertical slash that tore through the ice carapace and struck the vital point beneath the creature's neck. With one final thunderous roar that echoed throughout the mountain, the colossus collapsed heavily onto the snow, disintegrating into thousands of luminous fragments that dropped an ornate key made of pure silver and a heavy special magical stone as its final spoils, which I immediately stored in the magic bag alongside the other gems collected previously.

With victory secured and the path finally clear, we gathered before the imposing runic gate that blocked the exit from the mountain. Using the silver key left by the dragon, I unlocked the mechanism with ease, allowing the squad to cross the threshold and begin the journey toward the thirty-fourth floor of the tower, renewing our energies for the challenges ahead.
