Chapter 165 - The Edge of Collapse

IRONROOT — Chapter 165: The Edge of Collapse

The world split again.

Ravok's weapon carved through the air, and reality answered by breaking.

Not cracking.

Not bending.

Breaking.

A jagged fracture tore across the plaza, swallowing iron constructs, shattering stone, and ripping apart the Vein channels beneath Ardrath like threads under strain.

Kael felt it instantly.

The Ironroot network recoiled.

Not from fear—

From damage.

Real damage.

"Hold him!" Kael roared.

But Ravok wasn't something that could be held.

He moved like destruction given form.

Every step crushed space beneath him. Every swing of his weapon sent ripples outward that warped gravity, tore through energy, and destabilized everything they had built.

Valdrik struck again, lightning exploding across the battlefield as his hammer came down with overwhelming force.

Ravok caught it.

Not easily.

But with satisfaction.

The impact sent shockwaves through the plaza, but Ravok held firm, muscles tensing beneath fractured armor.

"Good," he growled.

Then he twisted.

Valdrik was thrown across the battlefield, crashing through two Ironroot pillars before slamming into the ground.

Dren didn't hesitate.

Even without his original cleaver, he charged again, weapon reforged from Ironroot fragments blazing with molten energy.

"This time you don't break it!" he roared.

He struck—

Fast.

Precise.

Ravok didn't catch it this time.

The blade connected—

Sparking against his armor.

For a moment—

It held.

Then Ravok smiled.

And pushed forward.

The weapon shattered.

Again.

Dren staggered.

"…You've got to be—"

The punch came next.

Dren flew backward like he'd been erased from the space he occupied.

"ENOUGH!"

Seraphine exploded.

Her crimson aura erupted into a storm.

No control.

No restraint.

Just power.

Fire consumed the battlefield, roaring outward in violent waves that twisted and snapped like living creatures.

For the first time—

Ravok was forced to brace.

The flames slammed into him, pushing him back a step.

Then another.

His grin widened.

"Yes…"

"YES!"

He raised his weapon and brought it down through the flames.

The fire split.

But not cleanly.

Not completely.

Because something had changed.

Seraphine wasn't holding back anymore.

"Seraphine—STOP!" Kael shouted.

But she didn't hear him.

Or didn't care.

Her eyes burned brighter.

Unstable.

Cracked.

Nyxara's voice echoed faintly in the back of her mind.

You don't stop.

The fire surged higher.

Hotter.

Wilder.

It began to consume everything around her.

Even the Veins.

Kael felt it.

"NO—"

He forced the Ironroot network to respond.

Chains erupted, wrapping around Seraphine's flames—

Trying to contain them.

They burned.

Melted.

Failed.

Astra Veyra moved instantly.

Golden fire surged forward, meeting Seraphine's chaos head-on.

"Get control of yourself!"

Seraphine laughed—

But it wasn't right.

Not her usual sharp, mocking laugh.

This was… fractured.

"Why?"

"Why should I?!"

The crimson flames lashed out—colliding with Astra's solar fire.

The clash sent shockwaves across the plaza.

The two forces burned against each other—

Neither yielding.

"Focus!" Arcanis shouted.

He slammed his staff into the ground, layers of arcane barriers forming between them.

Soryn bent space itself, trying to isolate the explosion into a contained dimension.

Vaelith stepped forward, eyes glowing intensely.

"Her probability chain is collapsing."

Ignivar's flames flared as he moved.

"We stop her—now."

But Ravok wasn't done.

He laughed louder.

Watching the chaos unfold.

"This is it!"

"This is REAL!"

He charged straight into the clash of flames.

Mad.

Unstoppable.

His weapon swung—

Breaking through both crimson and gold in a single devastating arc.

The impact shattered the arcane barriers.

Collapsed Soryn's dimensional field.

Sent Astra and Seraphine flying in opposite directions.

Kael snapped.

The Hollow Crown erupted with power.

"No more!"

The Veins roared.

Not scattered.

Not divided.

Focused.

Every ounce of Ironroot energy surged into him.

Compressed.

Condensed.

Controlled.

Chains formed again—

Different this time.

Heavier.

Stronger.

Not spreading outward—

But converging into Ravok from all directions.

Thousands of chains struck at once.

They wrapped.

Locked.

Held.

The plaza trembled violently.

Ravok roared.

For the first time—

Not laughter.

Resistance.

Real resistance.

Kael stepped forward.

Blood running from the side of his head.

The Hollow Crown burning.

"This ends."

Ravok struggled.

Pushed.

The chains cracked.

But they didn't break.

Not yet.

"NOW!" Kael shouted.

The team moved.

Together.

Valdrik, recovered, struck with lightning from above.

Eryndor froze Ravok's limbs.

Astra reignited, her solar fire burning with renewed intensity.

Ignivar slammed his hammer down, molten energy pouring into the chains.

Arcanis reinforced the structure with arcane bindings.

Soryn stabilized the space around Ravok.

Vaelith twisted probability itself—

Ensuring the chains held.

For a moment—

Everything aligned.

Everything worked.

Ravok was trapped.

Then—

Seraphine rose.

Slowly.

Her flames still burning.

Still unstable.

Still wrong.

Kael saw her.

"…Seraphine."

She didn't look at him.

Her gaze was fixed on Ravok.

Her voice was quiet.

Too quiet.

"If I let go…"

The flames surged again.

"…I can end this."

Kael's eyes widened.

"No—"

But she was already moving.

Rising into the air.

Crimson fire gathering around her—

Not wild anymore.

Not chaotic.

Focused.

Compressed.

Like a star about to collapse.

Vaelith reacted instantly.

"She's about to rupture."

Arcanis shouted.

"That will destroy half the city!"

Ignivar's voice thundered.

"SERAPHINE—STOP!"

But she didn't.

Nyxara's whisper returned.

You don't stop.

Kael moved.

Faster than he ever had before.

Chains abandoned Ravok.

The prison weakened.

But he didn't care.

He reached Seraphine—

Just as the energy peaked.

"Look at me!"

She didn't.

"LOOK AT ME!"

Her eyes snapped to his.

And for a moment—

She was there.

Just her.

Not the power.

Not the chaos.

Her.

Kael's voice dropped.

"You don't have to prove anything."

The flames flickered.

"You're already here."

"They didn't break you."

Her breathing shook.

"…I can't control it."

"Yes, you can."

The Hollow Crown pulsed.

Not forcefully.

Not dominantly.

But… steadily.

The Veins responded.

Not as weapons.

But as support.

The iron chains didn't bind her power.

They held it.

Stabilized it.

Shared the weight.

Seraphine gasped.

The flames shifted.

Not gone.

Not suppressed.

Balanced.

Controlled.

Her body dropped slightly in the air.

"…I…"

The energy faded.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Safely.

Behind them—

Ravok broke free.

The weakened chains shattered.

He stood again.

Breathing heavier now.

Smiling wider.

"YES."

"That's it."

He lifted his weapon again.

"This is what I wanted."

Kael turned.

Exhausted.

Bleeding.

But standing.

This wasn't over.

Not even close.

But something had changed.

The team stood together again.

Not perfect.

Not stable.

But united.

For now.

Ravok raised his weapon.

The sky cracked again.

And Kael realized something cold and certain—

This wasn't just a battle.

It was a breaking point.

And they had only just survived it.
