Elena was sitting in her cell room hugging onto Sidra as they talked quietly. Elena was freaking out because she expecting someone to kill her at any moment. The way the guards
and even the inmates had stared at her was making her paranoid. She look into the corners of the cell room to make sure someone wasn't hiding in the corner to kill her. Or worse.
Sidra was telling her about her friends at school and Elena listened attentively. She needed a distraction a desperately. God, what I wouldn't do for a joint right now.
"I didn't like Mark at all," explained Sidra. "He was a bully. He kept smacking my hand whenever he was coloring and it would ruin my drawing…"
Doctor Zhirkov had tried his best to protect Elena and so far, she was alive. But there was no way she was going to get a place helping him in his medical ward. That had been the only way she could survive beyond her use of being a hostage like the doctor himself had been.
But now things looked grim.
She hoped against hope that maybe Michael would save them somehow. Poof. Appear with a lightning strike, kill everyone here and they would just tippy toe out. But it was highly unlikely. Michael had probably run away or been caught by the Nazis. There was no way he would come back for us. Elena's experiences of the world had taught her than you should never expect someone to do what you had done for them.
But even if he had run away, Elena wished him the best. After all, he had saved her life.
She hoped he would kill every last human on the planet. Humans had ruined the world as much if not more than the respawners. She used to think that there were good humans on this earth but no humanity but now all she could think was:
Fuck humans and fuck humanity.

An hour before dawn, Owen shook Michael awake and they drove for half an hour before reaching the stables. They both mounted a single horse and they rode off for another hour to a nearby rocky cavern area which was devoid of any life for miles away. Owen graciously set up some sticks and rocks on the natural shelves of a cavern wall as a makeshift shooting range.
"Go on ahead, kid," said Owen stepping to the side when he was done. Michael had the repeater in his tremoring hands. "Show me what you got."
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. Michael had missed every shot.
Owen face palmed letting out a sigh. He approached Michael and aggressively grabbed at his body, trying to position him correctly. He positioned his hands around the weapon, fixed his stance while rapidly giving him tips that Michael tried to remember.
An hour later, Michael had gotten some hang of shooting the gun although he had still missed more than half of the targets.
"Alright," said Owen sighing and adjusting his hat. "We should get going now. You ready?" Michael looked up at him with a nervous expression.
"Well, you better be."
