Chapter 358 - Chapter 359: The Wizard’s Tome

Chapter 359: The Wizard's Tome

"Much like the Pukwudgie, the Wampus Cat is a mascot of Ilvermorny. The forests surrounding the school are teeming with them. The magical creatures here have formed their own ecosystem, following the ancient laws of the jungle," Newt explained.

His answer solved Sean's doubt and clarified why the cat he'd seen had been injured. Newt, it seemed, was subtly pointing the way for him.

When Sean looked at the legendary Hufflepuff, the old man was standing slightly hunched, his speech slow and deliberate. It didn't seem like the suggestion was entirely his own idea—perhaps Dumbledore had dropped a hint in his letter.

They began a tour of the "stitched-together" landscapes within the case. Newt walked ahead with his characteristic drifting gait, while Sean, still bundled up like a ball of wool, peered around with wide-eyed wonder.

This world contained everything: snowflakes the size of feathers, magnificent auroras pulsing in the "sky," and deserts scoured by howling sandstorms.

By the time they reached the Thunderbird habitat, Sean's hair was standing on end from the static electricity, looking like a mushroom. His robes had several holes burned into them from a stray drop of Runespoor venom, and a baby Occamy had once again decided to hitch a ride in his pocket.

Despite the various mishaps involving a Nundu, a Swooping Evil, and a swarm of Billywigs, Sean's enthusiasm for magical creatures only grew.

If I could make Fairy Tale Biscuits for these species... he thought. Flight, control over storms, near-instantaneous teleportation... they would all be within my grasp.

Sean knew what he needed to do and what he was capable of achieving in the short term. Despite the temptation to harvest everything he saw, he didn't deviate from his plan. He simply felt that time was slipping through his fingers.

Crafting an Undetectable Extension storage device, making Wampus Biscuits, mastering his second Soul Revenant, and unearthing the mystery of Ravenclaw's Diadem—his schedule was at its breaking point.

He let out a soft sigh. To Newt, this display of intense passion only made his shy smile grow more fond.

"Mr. Scamander, would you be willing to teach me the art of creating stable, multi-environment expanded spaces?" Sean asked as he gently returned the reluctant Occamy to its nest.

"Certainly," Newt agreed with a smile.

Sean's eyes lit up. Newt realized that Dumbledore's description in the letter had been spot on:

[While I have found little evidence of his youth in other areas, in the realm of magic, I know him to be a child... a child utterly obsessed with the craft. His nature regarding magic is much like yours regarding creatures; it is a spark that should be cherished...]

"I can currently only produce simple, singular spaces," Sean admitted. He knew it would take three days of intense work to build the massive interior he wanted, but he had managed to create a few small prototypes.

He reached into his robes and pulled out a tiny object. In a second, it expanded into a book with silver-embossed edges.

The first few layers of the book contained sheets of parchment shrunk and folded with specialized charms—this allowed Sean to carry an entire library's worth of notes on alchemy and magical theory. At the very center of the book was a small wooden compartment.

As the book opened, the compartment unfolded like a pop-up, forming a rectangular wooden box about the size of a satchel.

"I call it the Wizard's Tome," Sean said. "But I cannot yet create a space large enough for a living habitat. More importantly, Mr. Scamander, I don't know how to 'anchor' a piece of the natural world inside."

Sean allowed a look of genuine confusion to cross his face. If he couldn't create a natural habitat, how was he supposed to "abduct" a Wampus Cat from Ilvermorny?

"Anchor it?" Newt repeated shyly. "I don't create them. I simply... sever them."

"A Severing Charm?" Sean's mind whirred. He grasped the logic instantly. "You use a specialized Severing Charm to cut a piece of the physical world, then use Shrinking Charms to transport it and Engorgement Charms to place it. Finally, you use Shield Charms to isolate the different climates and Weather-Working Charms to keep the pocket dimension stable."

He muttered the process to himself, realizing the sheer difficulty of the task. He would need to learn at least three new high-level spells, and the Weather-Working Charms would have to be customized for every single species.

The manufacturing process was like walking a tightrope across a canyon. Shoving multiple distinct "cut-outs" of the world into a single expanded space was incredibly volatile. Keeping that space stable was the true masterwork.

Master Newt is a genius, Sean realized.

Now, with a world-class master standing before him, Sean knew he might never get another chance like this.

"It seems you've done your research," Newt said. He paused at the entrance to his workshop area, gently patting a Bowtruckle before setting it on a branch.

"It sounds incredibly difficult..." Sean frowned. Learning all of this during a single Christmas break seemed... a bit much. Even for him.

He had seven days. If he worked fifteen hours a day, he could dedicate over a hundred hours to the Tome.

"Can we start now, Mr. Scamander?" Sean's eagerness was palpable.

"Yes. But I must warn you, child—crafting a truly stable habitat requires years of study," Newt said gently.

"I understand, sir." Sean nodded and opened his panel:

[Mid-Tier: Wizard's Tome Prototype: Entry (270/300)]

This was the first time he had seen a "Prototype" label on his system. It suggested his theory was correct: a fully realized Wizard's Tome containing diverse natural environments would be a High-Tier Alchemical Construct.

"I will give it my all," Sean vowed.

At first, Newt didn't truly grasp what that meant.

It wasn't until he found himself practically drained of his relevant technical knowledge inside the workshop that Newt realized only a single day had passed.

Since their first lesson, the boy had progressed at a speed that defied the laws of magical education. Newt watched as the interior of the Wizard's Tome expanded from the size of a wardrobe to a clearing thirty meters wide in less than twenty-four hours.

The space was rock-solid. The layers of intricate runes Sean had engraved into the wooden frame were a testament to a talent that was simply overflowing.

The 'Hermes' of our age... Newt smiled shyly, recalling the phrase from The Daily Prophet.

The momentum only faltered when they reached the final step.

"Mr. Scamander... the spatial variant of the Severing Charm is too difficult," Sean admitted, looking genuinely crestfallen for the first time.

Newt's smile froze. Even for Sean, it seemed, some things had a learning curve.
