My question seemed to throw him off balance.
He opened his mouth several times to speak, but words wouldn't come out, then he let out a nervous laugh.
Elon didn't strike me as someone who'd experience things like nerves or even anxiety. I stayed quiet, waiting for him to gather himself. When he finally did, he raised his head and stared at me for a few seconds before reaching for my hand on the table.
I was not fast enough to remove my hands from his before he grabbed them, caressing my thumb softly.
"First, I wasn't joking about liking you, and it was a pity we never had a chance to go on that date, but…" he took a deep breath. "I like you, Naya. From the moment I laid my eyes on you, I cannot explain how I felt but, I like and you don't have to worry about me, I don't have a Raze so, it's totally fine."
I stared at him for a moment, wondering if this was a test of some sort and that, at any moment, he would smile and confirm my thoughts, but he kept staring at me.
