Chapter 230 - chapter 160 part 2

chapter 160 part 2

"Just in case."

...

Saying this, Glyn picked up a blank piece of parchment and placed it before Lord Eddard.

"You should have an escape route. In your name as Protector of the Realm and Hand of the King, please appoint me Captain of the Iron Gate."

Lord Eddard shook his head. "Glyn, you all should leave King's Landing as soon as possible."

"Lord Eddard, we have both been on the battlefield. Besides the gods, no one can guarantee absolute victory. You need to leave yourself a way out."

Glyn picked up the quill, dipped it in ink, and handed it to Lord Eddard.

"My household knights will remain with the soldiers to guard the Iron Gate. If anything should happen, please rendezvous with them and leave King's Landing directly."

Lord Eddard: "..."

Glyn added, "If you do not grant my request, we will all stay and face this with you. Arya believes her swordsmanship has improved greatly..."

Hearing Glyn's "threat," Lord Eddard could not help but chuckle. He took the quill from Glyn's hand.

When the winter comes, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

...

Glyn took the letter of appointment and said, "Lord Eddard, I will come for your children early tomorrow morning."

Lord Eddard nodded slightly. "Glyn, I am in your debt."

He seemed to have just remembered something. "How did you know I was appointed Protector of the Realm?"

Glyn shrugged. "A hint from Varys. I'll say it again: there are no secrets in the Red Keep. Please be extra careful."

"Gods be damned!" Lord Eddard cursed under his breath.

Glyn bowed his head and took his leave. Just as he reached the door, however, Lord Eddard called him back.

Glyn turned to look at Lord Eddard.

Lord Eddard walked over, patted Glyn's arm, and said gently, "Good lad. The North never forgets."

After a pause, a faint smile appeared on Glyn's clear face. He placed his palm over his heart.

"House Crabbe never forgets."

...

...

The secret beach below the Red Keep.

Glyn looked up at the night sky. He estimated that in another hour or two, the sky would brighten. Tonight had been truly busy.

Hearing a sound, Glyn lowered his gaze and turned around.

When the person approached, Glyn showed a faint smile and said, "Good evening, Lord Petyr."

Having spent some time in the Black Cells, Petyr looked somewhat disheveled.

Petyr's voice was very hoarse. "Good evening, Lord Glyn. I did not expect it to really be you."

Glyn took a wineskin from Monton Waters's hand, then waved for the others to withdraw.

"Lord Petyr, I am a man of my word. You will be able to leave in a moment."

Petyr took the wineskin, pulled out the wooden stopper, and took a swig.

"Ahh."

Petyr could not help but let out a sound of satisfaction. He said self-deprecatingly, "Such a familiar taste. This is how Arbor Red tasted the first time I tried it. I thought I would never taste it again."

Glyn's eyes flickered. "The more one has, the more bland things seem."

"Only when you lose it do you realize its value," Petyr said, taking another swig of Arbor Red.

Petyr's cheeks had thinned considerably, but his pair of grey-green eyes still shone. He looked back in the direction he had come from.

"Lord Glyn, I didn't expect you to also command a secret passage to the Black Cells."

Glyn also looked over, as if lamenting, "A pity. Starting tomorrow, it can no longer be used."

Petyr looked at Glyn and said, "Lord Glyn, I am truly somewhat curious. When did you and Varys become friends?"

Glyn spread his hands. "Lord Varys probably sees something of value in me, but I do not yet know what it is."

Petyr shrugged. "That is a truly unsurprising answer."

Glyn first smiled, then pointed in a direction along the shore. "There is a small boat over there. They are mercenaries of good repute. They will be responsible for escorting you to the Eyrie."

After a pause, he added, "They will be under your command."

After a moment of silence, Petyr's eyes flickered slightly as he said, "Lord Glyn, could you tell me what has happened recently?"

Glyn nodded and said slowly, "Because of Hand of the King Eddard's raven, the Vale has started to become a bit lively. It is said that Lady Waynwood of Runestone, Lord Belmore, Lord Redfort, Lord Hunter, and Ser Symond Templeton of Ninestars have jointly formed the Alliance of the Righteous. They claim they will use all necessary means to bring the shameless traitor Lysa Tully to justice. Oh, right, Bronze Yohn Royce is still in King's Landing. When he returns to the Vale, he will likely join the Alliance as well."

Petyr's lips curled. "Haha, how lively indeed..."

After a pause, he looked at Glyn and continued, "Lord Glyn, when you say 'lively,' are you referring only to the Alliance of the Righteous?"

"It also includes Lysa Tully. In her name as regent for the Lord of the Eyrie, she has declared the Alliance of the Righteous to be rebels of the Vale and has ordered all Vale nobility outside the Alliance to form the True Alliance of the Righteous to annihilate the traitors."

Petyr scoffed. "The True Alliance of the Righteous?"

Glyn shrugged. "Yes, that's the name. Just like how Lysa Tully has people call the little lord the true Warden of the East. It's more or less the same idea."

Petyr suddenly asked, "Lord Glyn, has Hand of the King Stark revoked my title and lands?"

Glyn pointed in the direction of the small boat, and the two began to walk.

"Lord Petyr, the Hand of the King is waiting to try Lysa Tully herself in King's Landing. Your crimes have not yet been announced, so your title and lands remain."

Petyr's tone was tinged with mockery. "Not yet announced? I imagine nearly all the Seven Kingdoms know by now."

Glyn said with a smile, "Lady Lysa has sealed off the Eyrie. No matter what opinions others may have, there is not much they can do right now, unless..."

Petyr finished the sentence, "...they use military force... The Alliance of the Righteous will sooner or later gather their forces beneath the Eyrie."

Glyn glanced at the relaxed-looking Petyr and said, "Lady Lysa needs your help now more than ever. I imagine she will support you with all her heart, Lord Petyr."
