Valeria remained silent for a moment before slowly turning away from the window.
"No."
The elderly vampire looked surprised by her response, but he didn't dare question her decision.
She walked toward her table and calmly picked up the document she had been reading earlier.
"If he wants me to believe he was merely taking a midnight stroll…" A faint coldness appeared in her eyes. "…then let him believe that I do."
The elderly vampire bowed slightly, waiting for further instructions.
The heiress lowered her gaze to the document, but despite her seemingly calm expression, she didn't read a single word.
For some reason, James Norton's unexpected visit days earlier returned to her mind. She had handled his request with civility and, after giving the matter some consideration, had sent him a response turning down his proposal.
