The weird thing about silence is that you only notice it when it should be filled.
Eli hadn't said a single word since I woke up, and normally that would be a relief—except her silence felt deliberate, which was somehow worse than her commentary thanks to her promise that she would remain after I was no longer the host of the Sinful Greed.
After all, Eli, as annoying and obnoxious as she was, rarely lied to me.
I expected something along the lines of pointing out that I had managed to fall in love twice in a single day, which was such an astronomically greedy thing to do that even she would approve on principle.
So I did a quiet internal check of what I actually had left one more time.
Sinful Greed was definitely gone. I confirmed it by the sensation of its absence first—that acquisitive pull at the back of my skull and soul that had been my constant companion since the Undead Realm was simply not there anymore.
