Noah watched Mrs. Damson approach with a mixture of guilt and sheer disbelief.
His mouth twitched as he looked from the determined woman to the smug Adam reclining on the bed.
He felt the need to give her an out, a way to escape this ridiculous demand without feeling like she was failing her employer.
"Mrs. Damson, please," Noah said, his voice soft but urgent.
"You really do not have to do this if you do not want to. You can just ignore him and take it that Adam is speaking absolute nonsense right now. He is clearly not in his right mind."
But Mrs. Damson wasn't having any of it.
She straightened her back and shook her head with a stubborn finality that surprised Noah. She looked at him with a gaze that was full of pride and a strange sort of professional fervor.
