Chapter 315: Dragonite vs. Annihilape (Part 2)
Although Namgung Xi usually acted like a scatterbrain, her knowledge of Pokémon was profound. She was a perfectly qualified trainer.
She was well aware that Annihilape was a classic physical brawler with limited ranged capabilities.
Consequently, she chose a "kiting" strategy for Dragonite, keeping it at a distance and constantly monitoring Annihilape's movements to prevent it from closing in.
Harnessing its aerial advantage, Dragonite flapped its wings, sending waves of sharp wind blades downward.
While Air Cutter wasn't enough to instantly take Annihilape out, it was still a super-effective Flying-type move. Annihilape couldn't afford to just stand there and take it.
Fortunately, while Dragonite was fast in flight, its move execution speed wasn't particularly outstanding. This was the reason behind the species' paradox: they were rumored to circle the globe in sixteen hours, yet had a mediocre base Speed stat of 80.
Annihilape dodged the wind blades with ease, constantly looking for a window to lunge at the dragon.
But every time Annihilape got close, Dragonite would trigger Extreme Speed, instantly pulling away and resetting the distance.
This "cat-and-mouse" game only served to make the red glow around Annihilape's body grow more intense. It was getting very, very angry.
"RWOOAAA!!! —"
In the arena, Dragonite soared through the sky, occasionally banking to fire off more wind blades.
Below, the white-haired ghost-monkey moved like a blur. Facing the incoming blades, Annihilape simply shifted its weight, letting the energy pass by, then slammed its feet into the ground.
SWISH!!!
Annihilape launched itself into the air. Its fist was clenched, and a bone-chilling frost began to roll off its knuckles.
Ice Punch!!!
Against a Dragon/Flying type, this move dealt quadruple damage. Even with Multiscale protecting it, Dragonite would be crippled if this hit landed.
At the critical moment, Dragonite's body flashed with white light. It accelerated to an impossible velocity, pulling out of the strike zone just before the frozen fist could connect.
Extreme Speed!!
"Chaa..."
Missing its target, Annihilape landed back on the grass. Its crimson eyes were fixed on the sky, and its brow was twitching.
Clearly, this game of tag was wearing out its patience. Its rage was boiling over.
Namgung Xi also realized that kiting forever was pointless; Extreme Speed was a massive drain on Dragonite's stamina. She needed to end this.
"Lulu!!! Use Dragon Rush!!!"
"RWOOAAAA!!!! —"
Dragonite roared, finally abandoning its defensive posture. It wheeled around in the sky and dove straight down. A skeletal, blue dragon phantom formed around its body as it plummeted toward the ghost-monkey.
"Ice Punch!!"
Seeing the dragon finally come down to play, Annihilape didn't back down. It reignited the freezing energy in its fist and prepared to meet the charge head-on.
Dragonite dive-bombed at a terrifying speed.
But just as it was about to collide with Annihilape, Dragonite let out a sharp cry and suddenly pulled upward. Using Extreme Speed mid-charge, it adjusted its trajectory with pinpoint precision, coming in from a completely different, deceptive angle.
"Lulu! Use Dragon Ace!!!!"
Dragon Ace—a fusion move of Dragon Rush and Aerial Ace. By combining the raw power of the rush with the "never-miss" precision and maneuverability of the ace, she had created a devastating combo.
It was designed to catch the opponent off guard and ensure a direct hit.
"Phantom Force!!"
The sudden change in direction caused Annihilape's Ice Punch to whiff through the air.
In the next instant, Annihilape used the momentum of its missed swing to dive forward. Its semi-gaseous body suddenly sank into the ground, vanishing entirely.
Phantom Force. A Ghost-type move where the user hides in a shadow dimension before striking.
"Lulu!! Earthquake!!"
"Rwooaa!! —"
Namgung Xi reacted immediately. Dragonite slammed its feet into the floor.
RUMBLE...
The entire arena groaned as shockwaves tore through the earth.
Annihilape had been hiding underground, and while it had avoided the Dragon Ace, it couldn't escape the tremors. Forced out of its hiding spot, it burst through the surface behind Dragonite and threw a desperate punch.
"Turn around and use Dragon Claw!!"
Anticipating the rear assault, Dragonite whipped around. Draconic energy solidified into razor-sharp claws on its hands as it slashed at the incoming Ice Punch.
But Annihilape didn't try to trade blows. It twisted its body mid-air, intentionally letting the Dragon Claw hit its torso while guiding its own Ice Punch past the guard.
BAM!!! —
The Dragon Claw struck Annihilape's chest with a heavy thud.
But before the dragon could celebrate, Annihilape's frozen fist slammed squarely into Dragonite's side.
"RWOOAAAA!!!! —"
Dragonite let out a scream of agony as it was launched sideways.
A point-blank, 4x super-effective Ice Punch, fueled by the power of Annihilape's stacked rage.
Even with Multiscale, it wasn't enough to save her. Lulu went down hard.
