Chapter 320: Mega Lopunny vs. Arbok (Part 2)
Facing Mega Lopunny's blind assault, Arbok—still fueled by the power of Outrage—refused to yield a single inch. It lunged forward, Psychic Fangs bared, aiming to tear through the rabbit's defenses.
Even with its eyes clamped shut, Mega Lopunny performed a staggering feat of agility. Sensing the displacement of air, it twisted mid-motion, letting the fangs snap shut on empty air. Simultaneously, it pivoted and drove a heavy fist into Arbok's side.
Fortunately, with Multiscale still protecting its hide, the Dizzy Punch failed to deal significant damage.
"CHAAAA!!!! —"
Arbok hissed in pain and irritation. It whipped its tail around, launching a retaliatory Poison Jab.
Knowing it had landed its blow, Mega Lopunny didn't overstay its welcome. It leaped backward, putting distance between them.
Kenji frowned. Logically, losing its sight should have crippled Mega Lopunny's combat effectiveness, yet the rabbit seemed to be moving with eerie precision. It was barely hindered at all.
His gaze flickered to the opposite trainer's box, and realization dawned on him.
Tanya Tang was standing perfectly still, her eyes locked on the battlefield with terrifying intensity. She wasn't saying a word, but her mind was racing.
It was a well-known fact that the Mega Evolution bond allowed for a direct link between the hearts and minds of trainer and Pokémon.
Mega Lopunny had closed its eyes to avoid Arbok's Glare, but Tanya was still watching. The arena's energy barrier blocked the psychological effects of the Dragon Might Pattern from affecting the spectators.
Essentially, Tanya had become Mega Lopunny's eyes.
Combined with the rabbit's naturally heightened senses of hearing and smell, the "blindness" was a non-factor.
Meanwhile, Arbok was burning through a massive amount of stamina. Maintaining Outrage and the Dragon Might Pattern while simultaneously executing high-level attacks was a heavy toll.
Kenji knew he had a trump card that could end this match instantly, but he wasn't ready to show it to the world just yet.
"Arbok! Use Haze!!!"
If the trainer was actings as the eyes, Kenji would simply blind the trainer.
"CHAAA!!! —"
Arbok let out a sharp hiss. A thick, inky black mist began to billow from its body, rapidly expanding until it blanketed the entire arena.
Tanya's brow furrowed. She hadn't expected Kenji to react so quickly to her link strategy.
Within seconds, the battlefield was a void of black fog. The silhouettes of the two Pokémon became blurred, indistinguishable shapes.
Inside the mist, Mega Lopunny dropped into a low crouch. Her long ears twitched, scanning for the sound of movement, while her small black nose sniffed the air, searching for the scent of the predator.
"Arbok!! Sludge Bomb!!"
"CHAAA!!! —"
From within the gloom, Arbok unhinged its jaws and spat a barrage of toxic, foul-smelling sludge at the rabbit.
Mega Lopunny's nose twitched. Despite being sightless, her sense of smell allowed her to pinpoint the trajectory of the incoming projectiles. She danced to the side, letting the toxic orbs pass.
SPLASH! SPLASH!
The Sludge Bombs hit the floor and detonated, coating the ground in a viscous, stinking mess.
A wave of nausea hit Mega Lopunny. The stench was overwhelming.
Tanya's expression grew even more grim.
As the putrid scent of the sludge spread through the arena, Mega Lopunny's most reliable tracking method—her sense of smell—was being systematically neutralized.
Sight gone. Smell overwhelmed.
Tanya's "eyes" were now restricted by the fog, and the rabbit was being forced to rely entirely on its hearing. Her movements became cautious, stiffened by the lack of sensory data.
Every tiny noise became a distraction. She was like a bird of prey that had suddenly lost the sky.
SWISH!!! —
The black mist was suddenly stirred. Two points of crimson light—Arbok's eyes—moved through the fog like a shark in dark water.
"Lopunny! Watch out!!"
Mega Lopunny whipped around, throwing a blind punch toward the source of the sound.
But the fist met only air.
In the next heartbeat, a searing pain erupted in her arm. Arbok had struck from the opposite side, its fangs sinking deep into her forearm.
"LOPUNNN!!! —"
The shock and the sudden surge of danger broke her composure. In a moment of pure panic, Mega Lopunny's eyes snapped open.
"SHIIII!!! —"
Waiting for her was the Dragon Might Pattern.
The skull-like design on Arbok's hood flared with a terrifying red light.
Even for a high-level Champion, the point-blank gaze of the Dragon King was too much. Mega Lopunny froze, her nervous system short-circuiting as a wave of paralyzing terror washed over her.
Kenji seized the opening instantly.
Arbok didn't pull away. Instead, it used the bite to anchor itself, coiling its massive, muscular body around the paralyzed rabbit in a split second.
Tighten Coil!!
A lethal combo of Coil and Bind.
Coil: A Poison-type move where the user hones its focus, sharply raising Attack, Defense, and Accuracy.
"LOPUNNN!!! —"
Mega Lopunny snapped out of the paralysis, her survival instincts kicking in. She desperately attempted a Substitute.
POOF!
A plush-like decoy appeared in Arbok's coils, and Mega Lopunny reappeared a few meters away. She immediately tried to land a Superpower strike on the snake.
Arbok's hood shifted to the Defense Pattern.
BAM!
The punch landed, but Arbok absorbed the impact with its hardened scales.
At that moment, the Coil buff completed. Arbok was now faster, stronger, and more accurate.
It lunged again. Mega Lopunny tried to dodge, but her movements were sluggish.
The paralysis had finally taken root in her muscles!!
Arbok's body lashed out like a whip, encircling the rabbit once more. It squeezed with the force of a hydraulic press. Simultaneously, it unleashed a point-blank Scale Shot, shredding the rabbit's defenses, and followed up with one final, savage Psychic Fangs to the neck.
"LOPUNNN!!!!"
Mega Lopunny let out one final, agonized shriek. Having taken multiple Outrage-boosted hits and suffering the health drain from Substitute, she had reached her limit.
A bright flash of white light erupted from her body. The Mega Evolution dissolved, and the rabbit reverted to its base form, collapsing limp in Arbok's coils.
