Facing the incoming beams, Drapion didn't even bother to dodge. It lunged forward, meeting the energy head-on with a Night Slash.
With a loud crack, its massive claws literally sheared through the beams of light.

Having neutralized the attack, Drapion rocketed toward Claydol. Its four short, powerful legs generated an incredible burst of speed, turning the Pokémon into a violet blur.

Li Songnian was genuinely startled.
But he didn't freeze. As Drapion charged, Claydol slammed its base into the ground, activating Earth Power.

Stone spikes erupted from the earth in rapid succession, aiming to impale Drapion or at least break its momentum.
But reality was cruel. Drapion's movements were fluid and agile. When a spike was unavoidable, it didn't slow down; it simply snapped its claws shut, crushing the solid rock into dust with a single squeeze before continuing its charge.
Seeing that Ground-based interference was failing, Claydol stopped attacking and used its Levitate ability to soar into the air, hoping to use its vertical advantage.
Facing the rising target, Drapion's tail hook uncoiled and pointed toward the sky.

From the tip of its tail, Drapion fired a dense barrage of glowing needles.

Using the spike as an anchor, Drapion exerted a massive amount of force. Its muscular body acted like a loaded spring.
It began to spin its body rapidly around the pillar of rock.
It was like a hammer-thrower winding up for a toss.

Drapion released its grip, launching its own multi-hundred-pound body into the sky like a violet missile toward Claydol.
High in the air, Claydol frantically gathered energy, condensing dozens of sharp stones around its body.
Stone Edge!!!
SWISH SWISH SWISH!!! —
The stones flew downward, aimed at the rising scorpion.
Drapion's claws were wreathed in dark energy. Facing the rain of stones, it simply swiped its claws, shattering every boulder that entered its strike zone.
Explosions filled the air as the stones were pulverized.
Breaking through the barrage, Drapion emerged from the dust right in front of Claydol.
It crossed its claws in an X-shape and slammed into the ancient doll.

The strike landed squarely on Claydol's clay-like body, causing a massive detonation.
But Drapion wasn't done. While they were still in mid-air, its tail whipped around. A Fell Stinger—the move Kenji's Beedrill was famous for—pierced straight into Claydol's core.
The two Pokémon plummeted back to earth.
With a thunderous crash, they hit the ground. When the dust cleared, Claydol was pinned beneath Drapion's weight.
A double-effective X-Scissor followed by a lethal Fell Stinger. The combination was too much. Claydol lay motionless, defeated.
And as Claydol fainted, the secondary effect of Fell Stinger triggered. Drapion's Attack stat rose sharply.
The already terrifying predator now radiated even more lethal intent.
"Claydol is unable to battle!! Drapion wins the round!!!"
The audience was in an uproar. To them, the ranking list carried weight. Li Songnian was #3. Elder Venom was #15.
Yet the "bottom seed" had just systematically dismantled the veteran's first Pokémon without taking a single scratch.
