While Ninetales's training hadn't been quite as suicidal as Gyarados's, the fox

had still put in a significant amount of work over the last few months. Combined

with its S+ potential, it had naturally reached Level 81.

Opposite her, Mason Chu's first choice pawed at the ground.

[Excadrill] Gender: Male Level: 96 (Champion) Type: Ground / Steel Ability: Mold

Breaker (Moves can be used on the target regardless of its Abilities.)

Potential: S-

Level 96 Excadrill...

Kenji's expression turned serious. On the type chart, Ninetales held the

advantage over Steel, but Ground was super-effective against Fire. It was a

high-stakes standoff.

Furthermore, this Excadrill possessed its Hidden Ability: Mold Breaker. It was a

dangerous trait that could punch through defensive abilities. However,

Ninetales's primary weapon was Illusion—an ability that warped the target's

physical senses (sight, touch, and smell) rather than just being a mechanical

combat modifier. Mold Breaker wouldn't be the "win button" Mason hoped for.

"MOOOOO!!! —"

Ninetales let out a long, haunting howl. Instantly, the stadium lights were

outshone by a surge of solar energy. Drought triggered, and the arena was bathed

in the blinding glare of a Harsh Sunlight.

"Ninetales! Fire Dragon Swarm!! —"

"MO!!!"

Ninetales struck first. It opened its maw and unleashed a massive pillar of

fire. But as the flames left its throat, Kenji's mental will channeled through

Extrasensory to warp the energy. The single fire pillar splintered into a dozen

small, serpentine fire dragons that curved through the air, weaving toward

Excadrill from every conceivable angle.

"Excadrill!! Rapid Spin!! —"

"EXCA-DRILL!!!! —"

Mason Chu didn't panic. He had seen enough high-level play to recognize a

psychic-controlled attack. He ordered a counter immediately.

Excadrill tucked its limbs and began to spin like a high-speed top, its steel

claws extended.

BANG! BANG! BANG!!! —

The fire dragons slammed into the spinning mole, but before they could make

contact with its hide, they were shredded by the vacuum and the force of the

rotating claws, exploding into harmless sparks.

The Fire Dragon Swarm was designed for accuracy over power. By splitting the

energy, each dragon was easier to deflect. Excadrill broke through the "swarm"

with ease.

Bathed in falling embers, Excadrill's eyes remained sharp. The Rapid Spin had

cleared the field and granted it a +1 Speed boost. It looked significantly more

agile.

"Ninetales!! Use Phoenix Fireline!!"

"MO!!!! —"

Ninetales fired another Flamethrower. But this time, instead of splitting the

energy, it used its psychic focus to compress the fire. The massive pillar

shrunk until it was no thicker than a wooden staff, but the color changed from

orange to a brilliant, incandescent white.

Phoenix Fireline: A high-density focus move. It sacrificed area-of-effect for

absolute, piercing power.

Seeing the concentrated white heat racing toward it, Excadrill didn't dare

attempt a spin-block. It performed a frantic side-roll, the fireline whistling

past its head.

But Excadrill's relief lasted only a fraction of a second. Under the guidance of

Ninetales's mind, the Phoenix Fireline didn't hit the back wall—it performed a

physics-defying, 180-degree U-turn in mid-air and rocketed right back at the

mole's exposed rear.

Excadrill's pupils shrank. It hadn't expected a beam of fire to act like a

homing missile. With no time to dodge again, it instinctively raised its

reinforced steel claws to shield its body.

SIZZLE!!! —

"EXCA-DRILL!!!! —"

The steel claws turned bright cherry-red instantly. The audience winced at the

sound—the sound of metal being superheated to its melting point.

"Slash!!!"

Excadrill roared through the pain, swinging its glowing claws to physically

"cut" through the fireline and break the stream.

BANG!!! —

A sharp explosion rocked the field as the fireline was severed. Excadrill stood

panting, its claws still smoking and glowing with heat.

"Exca..."

Small embers flickered across Excadrill's hide. Its expression twisted in pain.

Status: Burned!!!

Mason Chu's face was stone-cold.

Thanks to Kenji's time in the Contest circuit, his Ninetales had mastered the

art of "Beauty in Motion." It wasn't just an attacker; it was a master of

micro-managing energy. That 180-degree turn was a feat of control that very few

combat-focused trainers ever bothered to teach.

Mason let out a long breath. With Ninetales's psychic tracking, dodging was

becoming a liability. He needed to be the one dictating the pace.

"High-Speed Drill Run!!!"

BOOM!!! —

Excadrill exploded forward, combining the momentum of Rapid Spin with the

piercing force of Drill Run. It became a screaming, high-velocity drill aimed

directly at the fox.

Facing the incoming juggernaut, Ninetales didn't blink. It waited until the

drill was inches away before its eyes flashed blue.

Teleport!

The drill punched through the space where the fox had been a millisecond before,

hitting only the scorched air. Ninetales had already reappeared in a far corner

of the field, its tails swaying in a mocking rhythm.
