Chapter 429 - Chapter 419: The God of Lightning! Zapdos Takes the Stage!

Chapter 419: The God of Lightning! Zapdos Takes the Stage!

Despite having swept five of Yuna's Pokémon, Electivire was largely uninjured.

Its primary burden was the sheer mental and physical exhaustion of maintaining

such a high-intensity offensive.

Standing in the center of the arena, Electivire was still coated in its

shimmering Thunder Armor. Though its chest heaved with fatigue, the fire in its

eyes had only grown more intense. The "Thrill of the Hunt" from the previous

five victories had pushed its battle spirit to an all-time high.

With five of her team members defeated, Yuna was down to her final champion. It

was the moment everyone—had there been an audience—would have been waiting for.

The Warden of the Skies. The Living Storm. Zapdos!

"The stage is yours! Zapdos!"

"SKREEEEEEEEEE!"

Yuna hurled her final Poké Ball. As the red light expanded into the arena, the

very atmosphere of the valley shifted.

Rumble—CRACK!

Even before the Legendary bird fully materialized, thick, black storm clouds

began to spiral violently above the valley, forming a localized hurricane. The

sky, which had been clear moments ago, was swallowed by a swirling vortex of

shadow.

Inside those clouds, serpents of golden lightning slithered and hissed,

crackling with a sound that made the heart skip a beat. It felt less like a

weather change and more like the onset of divine judgment.

Beep-beep-beep...

Yuna pressed a command on her gauntlet. Instantly, the massive containment

shield surrounding the arena deactivated. In its place, secondary,

high-intensity hexagonal barriers shimmered into existence around both Kenji's

and Yuna's trainer platforms.

This was an emergency protocol. When the power of the Pokémon on the field

surpassed the integrity of the arena's main shield, the system prioritized the

lives of the trainers. In a standard stadium with an audience, this would never

be allowed. But here, in this secluded valley, there were no spectators to worry

about. The gods could fight without restraint.

"SKREEEEEEE!"

High above, Zapdos was bathed in a chaotic aura of electricity. Behind it, the

sky was a canvas of rolling black smoke and jagged gold. The sheer weight of its

Pressure ability descended upon the field like a physical hammer.

"BO-QIA!"

Electivire let out a defiant snarl, though its muscles involuntarily tensed. For

the first time, its ability to dominate the internal electricity of its opponent

felt... dampened.

Against standard Electric-types, Electivire was an apex predator that could

hijack their energy. But Zapdos was the source. It was a creature born of the

storm, capable of juggling natural lightning as if it were a toy. In a contest

of pure elemental authority, Electivire had finally met its match.

"Air Slash!"

Crackle! Whish-whish-whish!

Zapdos beat its jagged wings, and dozens of translucent blades of compressed

air, laced with static, rained down from every direction.

"Discharge!"

"BO-QIA!"

Electivire chose to meet force with force. It slammed its fists against its

chest, detonating a massive sphere of golden energy that expanded outward,

vaporizing the incoming wind blades before they could touch its fur.

"Magnet Rise!"

THOOM!

Electivire kicked off the ground, using electromagnetic repulsion to launch

itself into the air. It soared upward with startling speed, its fist glowing

with a bone-chilling, frosty blue light. It opened with Ice Punch—a move that

dealt double damage to the Flying-type Legendary.

However, Zapdos didn't bother to block. With a casual flick of its wings, it

banked right, dancing through the air with a grace Electivire couldn't hope to

replicate. It kept its distance, circling back to engage in a war of attrition.

The sky was Zapdos's domain, and it knew it.

"Thunder!"

"BO-QIAAAAA!"

Electivire roared, throwing its hands toward the heavens. Answering its call,

several massive bolts of natural lightning spiraled down from the storm clouds,

aimed directly at the Legendary bird.

Faced with the descending heavenly wrath, Zapdos didn't even flinch. It let out

a piercing, authoritative shriek.

"SKREEE!"

POP-POP-POP!

Before the bolts could even reach Zapdos's head, they spontaneously detonated in

mid-air, dissolving into harmless sparks that the Legendary bird simply absorbed

into its feathers.

Zapdos's eyes flashed with a hint of mockery.

This was the "Legendary Gap."

Electivire's eyes burned with frustration and rage. Since the day it evolved, it

had never met a Pokémon that could out-command it in the realm of lightning.

"SKREEE!"

Sensing its opponent's defiance, Zapdos called down a single, concentrated bolt

of lightning. It didn't strike immediately; it hung in the air, a jagged spear

of white-hot energy.

Electivire lunged for control, its psychic and magnetic reserves straining to

hijack the bolt. Zapdos pulled back. The two Pokémon remained locked in a

silent, invisible tug-of-war, the bolt of lightning suspended between them,

vibrating so violently it began to tear the air apart.

For a long minute, neither gave an inch. Then, with a final, triumphant shriek

from Zapdos, the bolt broke free of Electivire's grip. It surged forward, though

it detonated just before hitting Electivire.

Because of Motor Drive, the lightning couldn't hurt Kenji's Pokémon, but the

message was clear: in the hierarchy of the storm, Zapdos was King.

Kenji watched with narrowed eyes. He knew this was largely a matter of level.

Zapdos was Level 99—the absolute peak of the Champion Tier. Electivire hadn't

even reached the Champion threshold yet.

If they were at the same level, Kenji thought, Zapdos wouldn't stand a chance.

His Electivire had been star-upgraded by the System; its potential was

limitless. One day, it would be the true Sovereign of Lightning. But today, it

had to win through strategy and grit.

"BO-QIAAAAAA!"

Electivire let out a world-shaking roar. It was tired of playing by the sky's

rules. It funneled every remaining drop of its energy into its ultimate

technique.

A massive pillar of gold light erupted from its body, punching through the storm

clouds. The air around the valley began to hum with a frequency that vibrated

through the bone.

The Thunder God's Arena was opening.
