Chapter 259 - Chapter 258: A Not-So-Reliable New Team

"No, no, no... Look at me, with this appearance, as a captain... If word gets out, people will think Rhodes Island employs child soldiers."

Kanna pointed to her harmless face and said to Doctor.

"Don't worry, with your strength, it's impossible for us to assign you ordinary tasks. The tasks that require your intervention must be those that only you can undertake.

And I've seen some of your recorded sayings at Rhodes Island: 'As long as all witnesses are eliminated, it's a perfect infiltration.' I totally agree with that. By then, if you just eliminate all the witnesses, no one will know that Rhodes Island actually has a captain under ten years old, right?"

Doctor held a compilation of Kanna's recorded sayings from Rhodes Island and pointed to one of them as he spoke... Kanna looked at the record full of her embarrassing past statements, and a thousand alpacas stampeded through her mind... "Also, actually, don't worry. In my plan, your arrangement is to focus on special operations and executing special missions. These missions are actually rarely involved by Rhodes Island at present, so you basically won't be going out frequently.

You can first look at the team members I've prepared for you; this is only a partial list, not all of them. Of course, if you have any Operators you like, you can also suggest them. As long as it's not too much trouble, I'll try my best to arrange it for you."

Doctor handed Kanna a list for a new team he had gradually formed, tailored to Kanna's combat style.

Kanna felt like she couldn't escape, but thinking that being a captain seemed quite impressive, she reluctantly accepted it.

Picking it up and looking, good heavens, this team... the Special Fun Squad?

First to catch her eye were Rope and Yuki. However, Yuki was listed as an Engineering Operator, while Rope was her equipment user.

Considering that the grappling hook Yuki made was indeed very much in line with Rope's personality, whether for escaping or hooking someone's wallet from a hundred meters away, plus the fact that both came from Lungmen and were not particularly wealthy, it was normal for them to be together.

The third person was someone Kanna hadn't expected—Weedy. Kanna thought for a long time but couldn't figure out when she had arrived at Rhodes Island. Upon asking, she learned that when Rhodes Island was preparing to go to Chernobog, a team of Operators on a mission in Siracusa discovered Weedy. The locals were also afraid of this little girl who had emerged from a "curse," so the Rhodes Island personnel brought her back.

Then there were two recommended (pending) Operators: Nightmare and Gavial.

After seeing this carefully prepared lineup by Doctor, Kanna understood: this guy just wanted to stir up trouble.

Although in terms of lineup, it basically brought together the standard warrior, mage, and priest iron triangle.

But in actual combat, she would mostly have to rely on herself… and perhaps Gavial.

As for the others, Yuki, as a "researcher," didn't count for combat power. Rope, an experienced thief, was quite adept at escaping, but her combat ability was questionable.

Weedy was clearly assigned to her by the Doctor because she was young and mentally unstable, hoping that her affinity for young girls would help Weedy integrate into Rhodes Island.

As for Night Witch and Gavial, the former was a multiple personality patient, so no one knew if she would suddenly switch personalities during a fight. And the latter… was probably the only one who would charge into battle alongside Kanna.

"But you're a Medical Operator. If the medical staff are on the front lines, who will treat the injured if someone gets hurt?"

After reading the personnel list the Doctor handed her, Kanna stared intently at the Doctor, as if trying to pierce through the hood to see what was going on inside the helmet.

"Of course, I know this team has a lot of problems, but it's only just been formed. We can discuss it. If you have anyone in mind, just say so."

Knowing his arrangement was a bit of a trap, the Doctor couldn't help but look away under Kanna's intense gaze.

But under Kanna's continued visual assault, he eventually caved. He spread his hands, indicating that the team and core personnel were pretty much fixed, but Kanna could request additional members as supplements.

Kanna scratched her head and placed the document on the table.

"Then let's wait a bit. Aren't a lot of people from Lungmen arriving today? How about I go back and study the team composition, and then I'll get back to you!"

It seemed she couldn't escape being the captain, so she might as well consider the team composition. Since she couldn't avoid it, she would assemble a team that at least she was comfortable with.

"That works! After all, a new squad can't be formed in a day or two, and Gavial, as a Medical Operator, would need Kal'tsit's approval to go on an external mission."

The Doctor relaxed after Kanna accepted his proposal.

He pointed to the seat beside him.

"Speaking of which, I have an interesting idea, and among those who can achieve it, I think you are the most suitable. Do you want to hear it? It's a lot of fun, and I guarantee you'll be satisfied."

Hearing that the Doctor had something else, Kanna's first reaction was to refuse. After all, she had already stepped into one trap; she couldn't possibly step into several in a row.

However, the Doctor was earnest in his words, vowing that his idea would satisfy Kanna. So, Kanna reluctantly sat down, listening to what other tricks the Doctor had up his sleeve.

But she was also prepared: if she thought the Doctor's idea was too much of a trap or wouldn't satisfy her, she would absolutely get up and leave.

Although the Doctor saw Kanna's actions clearly, he was not discouraged. After all, he had just put her in such a big trap, so it was only natural for her to be wary of his words.

"I've been looking at Rhodes Island's Operator training plans recently. They are basically arranged by each squad leader according to their squad's situation. However, these arrangements are mostly for general situations and lack contingency plans for high-pressure and dangerous scenarios, which I think is very bad.

After all, it is indeed relatively safe on Rhodes Island, but external missions will face all sorts of challenges. Of course, many can be avoided through intellect and experience, but there will always be some unavoidable high-intensity battles that need to be faced directly.

My idea is to borrow SWEEP personnel and mon3tr from Kal'tsit, and then deploy Operators from each group to conduct live combat drills in the wilderness outside Rhodes Island.

With your and that one's presence, I believe the battles will inevitably be overwhelming, and this kind of overwhelming victory is exactly what I need.

Rhodes Island's Operators also need this kind of combat to reflect on how they should act if they encounter such situations, and how to ensure the team has the most survival opportunities with the least losses."
