"Alright, stop pushing yourself," Jiraiya said softly. "You've already done more than enough."
Naruto blinked, snapping out of his thoughts. He took the popsicle Jiraiya handed him and bit off a small piece.
The familiar sweetness spread across his tongue, melting slowly — along with it, the flood of old memories.
"Jiraiya-sensei… it's really good to have you back," Naruto said, his voice a little choked.
Jiraiya smiled wistfully. "Yeah… it's good to see everyone again."
In a lively city not far from Konoha, the dim, hazy lights of a casino flickered beneath the thick scent of smoke and sake.
Tsunade, wearing her usual green jacket, stood up from the gambling table.
Her light blonde hair framed a face marked with frustration, and the diamond seal on her forehead gleamed faintly under the dim lights.
With a heavy sigh, she turned and walked toward the door.
After stepping down as Hokage, Tsunade had developed a habit — visiting casinos more and more often.
And as always, luck never sided with her. Every game ended in loss.
"Lady Tsunade, here's your receipt. We hope to see you again soon."
The casino worker handed her a card respectfully, smiling wide. After all, the Fifth Hokage's presence was a major attraction — whenever Tsunade showed up, business boomed.
Who wouldn't want to see one of the Legendary Sannin up close?
And though she lost every single bet, the casino owners always found ways to return her money quietly afterward. Her visits were worth far more in publicity than in winnings.
Tsunade accepted the card with a tired smile. Next time… I'll win it back, she thought.
But she had made that same promise countless times before.
Stepping outside, she took a deep breath of the cool night air, trying to calm the irritation churning inside. The city's neon glow washed over her face — beautiful but lonely.
"Tsunade."
The voice was calm, familiar… and impossibly distant.
Her heart skipped a beat. It was a voice she hadn't heard in decades — one she thought she'd never hear again.
She spun around sharply. "Who's there? Show yourself!"
From the shadows, a graceful figure stepped forward — a woman in a traditional red kimono, her hair tied elegantly with a decorative comb, a diamond mark gleaming on her forehead.
Tsunade's eyes widened. "Grandmother…? Uzumaki Mito?! How—how is this possible?"
Mito smiled gently, her eyes warm and full of love. "It's me, Tsunade. I've returned."
"Did Orochimaru use the Reanimation Jutsu on you?" Tsunade asked warily.
Mito shook her head softly. "No, Tsunade. Let's talk somewhere quieter."
She led Tsunade through several empty streets until they arrived at an old teahouse.
Inside, the atmosphere was calm and refined — a sharp contrast to the chaos outside. They sat by a window as a server brought two steaming cups of tea.
Then, Mito explained everything.
When she finished, Tsunade sat frozen, eyes wide in disbelief.
"Wait—what? You mean someone named Uchiha Menma brought back Grandfather, Madara, Uncle Tobirama, Minato, Kushina, and even Jiraiya?!"
"And… they're preparing to face the Ōtsutsuki Clan that will invade in the future?"
Mito nodded calmly. "Exactly."
Tsunade's voice trembled. "Jiraiya… is back…"
Late that night, near the Hokage Residence in Konoha, Naruto sat with Jiraiya on the same bench, recounting everything that had happened — his battles, his struggles, his victories.
Jiraiya listened quietly, smiling faintly. When Naruto finally paused for breath, Jiraiya patted his shoulder.
"Alright, kid. We've got plenty of time. You can tell me the rest tomorrow."
Naruto blinked, confused — until he followed Jiraiya's gaze.
Hinata stood a few meters away, smiling warmly, her eyes full of patience.
Naruto scratched his head awkwardly. "Ah—Hinata! Sorry! I didn't realize how late it was."
He glanced at Jiraiya, then waved and started walking home.
"Go on," Jiraiya said kindly. "She's been waiting."
Naruto nodded, smiling. "Yeah. See you tomorrow, Jiraiya-sensei."
Jiraiya watched as Naruto walked away, the back of his Hokage robe glowing softly under the streetlight.
"...Naruto," he murmured, "I'll always be watching your back."
Naruto stopped for a moment, then smiled without turning around.
"Then keep watching, Pervy Sage."
After Naruto disappeared down the street, Jiraiya sat alone on the bench.
He took out a small, weathered notebook titled The Tale of Uzumaki Naruto.
Under the warm glow of the streetlight, he began to write again — slow, deliberate strokes.
Then, faint footsteps approached.
Jiraiya looked up to see Tsunade walking toward him, her expression trembling between laughter and tears.
"Jiraiya…" she whispered.
He smiled softly and closed his notebook. "Ah. It's you, Tsunade."
"You're really back," she said, voice breaking.
"Yeah," he chuckled. "Looks like you lost another bet, huh?"
Tsunade laughed bitterly through her tears. "Yeah… I lost again. Guess it's great to lose every time, huh?"
Her laughter cracked, turning to quiet sobs as tears ran down her cheeks.
Jiraiya stood, his eyes softening. The two of them stood there beneath the same yellow light — two souls who had finally caught up with time.
Meanwhile, in a desolate Ōtsutsuki dimension, magma flowed beneath a sky of crimson light, casting the ancient ruins in a hellish glow.
Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki, his long white hair cascading down his back, frowned as he watched a scroll crumble into ash in Kinshiki's hands.
"So this won't work either?" Momoshiki muttered coldly.
Kinshiki shook his head. "No. None of Kaguya's scrolls can be deciphered."
"Tch." Momoshiki clicked his tongue, annoyed.
A moment later, a voice echoed from above. "Still wasting time, Momoshiki-senpai?"
Momoshiki didn't turn around. "Urashiki. Have you found the Chakra Fruit yet?"
Urashiki smirked, leaning casually against the ancient stonework. "You know, it's been centuries since we last spoke, and that's your first question?"
Momoshiki's glare sharpened, the veins at his temples pulsing faintly.
"Alright, alright," Urashiki said quickly, waving his hand. "Of course I've looked into it."
As he spoke, the air before them split apart — a black rift tearing open, revealing a glowing blue planet beyond it.
Momoshiki stared at it in silence, eyes gleaming. "So that's the world Kaguya once ruled… Earth."
He rose to his feet, power rippling from his body. "Then let's go harvest its Chakra."
With that, Momoshiki stepped through the rift. Kinshiki followed close behind, the light swallowing them both.
The invasion had begun.
