Chapter 97 - Chapter 96: Playing the Pig to Eat the Tiger — Crushing the Opponent with Strength!

With Lu Nian's help, they had not only infiltrated this area but even managed to sneak trackers into Song Jie and his team's supply boxes.

That was how they located them so quickly!

At this moment, four enemies surrounded Song Jie and the others—each one a third-level Intermediate Mage. More than enough to deal with Mu Lei's group.

The leading man's eyes were fixed on Song Jie. He knew everything about him—his background, his supposed strength, and his weaknesses.

Song Jie had just begun to form his Star Chart when, to his shock, even before his seven Star Dusts could fully connect, his magic was forcibly disrupted!

Ding Yumian instantly sensed something. The man across from her was also a Mind Element mage!

Her expression hardened, and she suddenly shouted, "Song Jie!!"

The leader frowned, about to stop Song Jie, but Ding Yumian's interference broke his focus for an instant—an instant that was all Song Jie needed.

"Radiance—Exploding Golden Rain!!"

Without holding back, Song Jie unleashed his strongest Light Element attack.

As soon as he finished casting, he grabbed Ding Yumian and shouted to Mu Lei, "Come here!"

A split second later—

BOOM!

The yet-unformed Radiance detonated in midair, bursting into a blinding explosion of golden light.

Golden rain cascaded down like molten fire, scorching everything it touched. The surrounding vegetation was vaporized, and the shockwave sent all four attackers flying.

Even the leader wasn't spared. Though his Armor Magic Tool absorbed most of the impact, he was still badly shaken.

As for Song Jie—his defensive magic completely nullified the aftershock.

"Mu Lei!" Song Jie barked. "He's after me! Take Ding Yumian and the others and get out of here!"

Mu Lei gritted his teeth, nodded, and carried Ding Yumian on his back as he fled with Huo Yumeng. They knew staying would only slow him down.

The leader watched his fallen subordinates, his eyes cold and murderous. He no longer cared about Mu Lei or the others. His focus was solely on Song Jie.

"You really surprised me," the man said. "To think you had such power hidden away."

He assumed Song Jie had used a powerful Magic Tool—there was no record of him wielding Light Element attacks this strong.

Song Jie's expression darkened. "Who sent you?"

The man smirked. "A dead man doesn't need to know."

He spread his arms, activating his Mind Element Star Chart once more.

But when he saw that Song Jie remained completely unaffected, his expression twisted in disbelief.

"Impossible!"

He swiftly completed his Advanced Level Constellation—bright and complex, spinning in the air like a dazzling galaxy.

"Soul Capturing Mind Control!"

The Advanced Mind Element magic surged toward Song Jie, its power capable of enslaving minds completely.

But Song Jie didn't even flinch. The attack shattered harmlessly against an invisible barrier.

The man's eyes widened. "No way! How is your spiritual realm stronger than mine?! You're just a small Intermediate Mage!"

Song Jie didn't bother replying. The truth was simple—he was using Spiritual Holy Shield, a defense that rendered him immune to most mental assaults.

Unless the opponent's Mind Element reached the Advanced third-tier, no psychic power could penetrate it.

He raised his hand, Light Element energy gathering in his palm.

"Radiant Laser!"

The beam of light shot forth instantly. The enemy tried to block with Light Element magic, but the Radiant Laser—comparable to Advanced-level magic—tore through it effortlessly, blasting him back and shattering his Armor Tool.

The man crashed to the ground, coughing blood. His armor was in ruins.

Song Jie approached slowly. "I'll ask you one last time. Who sent you—and what do you want with me?"

The man's breathing grew ragged. His strongest Element was Mind, and his other Elements were only Intermediate.

He had been certain their group could handle Song Jie's team. But he'd been wrong—terribly wrong.

This wasn't a weak student pretending to be tough. Song Jie had been acting weak from the start.

Even now, with his life slipping away, the man clenched his fists. If he failed this mission, his entire family would be slaughtered.

He had no choice.

"Soul Capturing Mind Control!" he roared again. This time, the ring on his hand glowed violently.

Song Jie's instincts screamed danger.

Before he could react, the man's boosted mental power tore through part of his barrier!

"Damn it!" Song Jie cursed, preparing to cast another layer of Radiance—

But just then, the necklace around his neck flared with a faint purple light.

The psychic attack was instantly shattered.

The light in the man's eyes faded to despair.

That ring had temporarily boosted his spiritual realm by two entire levels, but it consumed his mental power in exchange. And even then—it wasn't enough.

Song Jie exhaled in relief, silently thanking Old Man Deng for giving him that mental protection artifact. Without it, he might've been mentally destroyed just now.

Piecing things together, he glared at the fallen man. "You're working for Lu Nian… aren't you?"

The man's eyes widened in shock, confirming his guess without words.

Song Jie's mind raced. But this event… it should've happened a year later!

Something about the timeline was wrong, but he didn't have time to figure it out.

The man had already accepted his fate.

Song Jie raised his hand. A thin beam of light pierced the air—and the man's heart.

It was over.

Song Jie searched the body and soon found a small test tube containing a crimson crystal.

He turned it in his hand. "A Blood Relic?"

He didn't dare test it. Not when his current power and the System made such dangerous items unnecessary.

Besides, this was long before Mo Fan's Demon Element awakening. The Blood Relic in his hand was likely a prototype.

He stored it away. "Might come in handy later. Maybe if I throw it at a demon, it'll explode and die on the spot."

He chuckled. Demon: Thank you very much.

Song Jie let out a slow breath. He'd survived—barely.

Summoning his Wind Riding Sky Eagle, he flew low through the forest toward where Mu Lei and Ding Yumian had gone.

Just then, Huo Yumeng came running toward him, panic all over her face.

Song Jie frowned and jumped down from the Sky Eagle.

"Song Jie!!" Huo Yumeng cried out and threw herself into his arms, hugging him tightly.

The soft pressure against his chest was… distracting, to say the least.

But now wasn't the time for that.

"What happened? Where are Mu Lei and Ding Yumian?" Song Jie asked urgently.
