Chapter 111 - Chapter 110: Blood Flows Like a River — The Manipulator Behind the Male Ants!

On the city wall, every Mage stood ready, waiting for the Bloodthirsty Ant army to approach.

The towering fortifications gave them confidence — once the Bloodthirsty Ants climbed up, they would be struck down immediately.

However, as the endless swarm surged closer, a chill spread through everyone's hearts.

Despite the fear tightening their chests, they had no choice but to fight. The people behind them were counting on their protection.

"Prepare for battle!" a commanding officer shouted through a loudspeaker.

The Bloodthirsty Ant army was less than a hundred meters away now, moving with terrifying speed. Within seconds, they were already scaling the walls.

Countless Bloodthirsty Ants raised their sharp forelegs and began crawling upward like a writhing black tide.

"Kill!!"

At the command, Mages along the wall unleashed a barrage of magic toward the advancing swarm.

When their spells ran dry, they resorted to brute force — hurling stones down from above.

The scene below became a blood-soaked nightmare. Countless Bloodthirsty Ants were crushed, their crimson fluids spilling and pooling at the base of the wall.

Yet, no matter how many died, the swarm didn't stop. One after another, they climbed, emotionless and relentless, like machines programmed for slaughter.

Song Jie and several Military Mages focused on the male ants — together, they had already slain dozens.

Even so, they could not completely halt the enemy advance. Still, their efforts had thinned the horde by nearly one-third.

"Come at me again if you dare!" Song Jie roared, fending off another wave of Bloodthirsty Ants summoned by a hidden male ant.

He searched the shadows, trying to locate the creature controlling the swarm, but it remained elusive.

Then, the enemy shifted tactics. Instead of targeting Song Jie, the Bloodthirsty Ants redirected their assault toward the other Military Mages.

"Old Qin! Watch out!" a companion shouted.

One of the Mages was locked in combat with a male ant and failed to notice the cluster of Bloodthirsty Ants creeping up behind him.

By the time he realized, it was too late. The swarm leapt, slashing at the Flying Eagle beneath him.

The eagle shrieked in pain as its body was torn by the Ants' razor-sharp forelimbs, blood spraying through the air.

The Military Mage completed his spell just in time — a blazing Fiery Fist burst forth, striking into the swarm.

But the eagle's injuries were too severe. Each flap of its wings made the wounds gush blood. Its body trembled mid-flight before finally plummeting from the sky.

Even as he fell, the Military Mage showed no fear. If he was going to die, he would at least take a few of the bastards with him.

The others could only watch helplessly; they had no way to rescue him mid-air.

Just as the Mage prepared to cast one final spell, a golden shield of light enveloped him.

The next instant, the swarm crashed into him, surrounding him completely.

He gritted his teeth and fought back with everything he had, determined to avenge his comrades.

No one expected that this glowing Holy Shield was Song Jie's doing.

"Little Eagle!" Song Jie shouted.

The Wind Riding Sky Eagle understood instantly, flapping its massive wings. Two tornadoes roared forth, sweeping away the Bloodthirsty Ants clawing at the Holy Shield.

"Go down!" Song Jie commanded.

The eagle dove sharply, its talons extending to snatch the injured Mage from the air.

Those who had doubted were utterly stunned.

Even an Intermediate-Level Light Blessing Guardian shouldn't have withstood the swarm's bites for so long.

But what they didn't know was that Song Jie's Holy Shield wasn't ordinary — it had been enhanced to Level Four, evolving into a Mental Holy Shield.

Not only could it resist mental interference, but its defense rivaled that of an Advanced-Level Stage Two spell.

The Bloodthirsty Ants' jaws simply couldn't pierce it.

Once rescued, the Military Mage exhaled in relief, hardly believing he was still alive.

Song Jie landed beside the group and asked, "I don't have much magic energy left. What about you?"

The others shook their heads. Their mana reserves were nearly empty as well.

"Then let's fall back," Song Jie decided.

Staying without mana was suicide, and he wasn't about to let them die in vain.

They nodded and withdrew toward the city wall. Below, the Bloodthirsty Ants had already blanketed the ground in a black tide.

"Good, you're back!" the female Military Supervisor said, visibly relieved.

"We did our best," one of the Mages replied tiredly.

They had fought with everything they had — and still, it wasn't enough.

"You've done well. Go rest for now," the Supervisor told them gently.

But instead of retreating, the Mages picked up stones and returned to the battlements, hurling them down at the endless swarm.

"You've worked hard," the Supervisor said softly, then turned her gaze outward, her expression heavy.

Barely an hour had passed, and You City (Oil City) was already at the brink of collapse.

Song Jie noticed her worried look. "Commander, do we have any strong Mind Element or Sound Element Mages here? Mental Mages could work too."

"What are you planning?" she asked.

"I suspect that behind the Bloodthirsty Ants — aside from the male ants — there's one commanding them," Song Jie explained.

Her eyes widened slightly. If that were true, eliminating the controller might turn the entire battle around.

"Can you find it?" she asked.

"I think they communicate through spirit or sound," he replied.

Realization dawned on her face — and she nodded. "What do you need me to do?"

Song Jie paused briefly, realizing she was likely a Mental Mage herself.

"We'll search through the swarm. Whether we find it or not depends on you," he said firmly.

"If I locate it, can you handle the rest?" she asked.

Song Jie smirked. "Of course. I can last till dawn without a problem."

Even if he wasn't sure, he wasn't about to admit weakness in front of a woman.

The sky was already dimming; they couldn't afford to delay any longer.

He turned to his Wind Riding Sky Eagle and asked, "Do you want to go first, or should I?"

"Either is fine," she replied calmly.

"Then I'll lead."

He leaped onto the eagle's back. The female Supervisor followed swiftly, wrapping her arms around his waist for balance.

"Let's go."

Song Jie nodded, steering the eagle toward the rear of the Bloodthirsty Ant army.

The woman wasn't timid like most, but she held onto him a little too tightly — her body pressing close enough that he couldn't help but notice.
