"Turbo Duel, Acceleration!"
Although Kira had removed the mandatory use of "Speed World" for Turbo Duels, he had retained some of the practical pursuit functions of Turbo Duels.
This was just like what was shown at the beginning of the 5D's anime—when Fudo Yusei tried to escape on his Duel Runner, the pursuing Trudge activated the Field Spell "Speed World," forcibly dragging Yusei into the high-speed field and forcing him into a duel.
If you couldn't win the duel, you couldn't escape from the pursuer. This was the basic principle of Turbo Duels.
The loser's Duel Runner perpetual motion engine would forcibly shut down, allowing the pursuer to catch up.
Both parties were pulled into the Turbo Duel.
The Duel Runner in front, which had been fleeing, was forced to slow down. Kira's Duel Runner chased from behind, and the two maintained a certain distance as they entered duel mode.
Entering duel mode didn't just restrict their speeds.
The front-mounted duel monitors on the Duel Runners automatically displayed both sides' Life Points, field situations, and the faces of both duelists captured by the front-facing cameras.
This was only natural and a necessary function for Duel Runner duels. Unlike traditional standing duels, the two sides could be far apart during a Turbo Duel, and the high speeds usually created roaring wind that drowned out any verbal explanations of moves or card effects.
Therefore, communication during a Turbo Duel was done entirely through the communication system. Each duelist's image was transmitted to the other via the front camera, and voice signals were exchanged through the built-in comms in their helmets. These were basic equipment on any Duel Runner. Without them, neither side could hear what the other was saying clearly, making a duel impossible.
The opponent hadn't intentionally hidden his face. It was just that the tower had been too dark earlier, and Kira had only seen his back, so he only now got a clear look at the other person's appearance.
It really was someone he recognized.
"You're… Breo from Team Unicorn?" Kira said in surprise. "Why are you investigating Iliaster and me?"
The person had blond hair, with a unicorn-horn-like decoration on his Duel Runner helmet and a similar horn on the front of his Duel Runner. He was a member of Team Unicorn, the team that had faced Team 5D's in the preliminaries. His name was Breo.
However, in Kira's memory, although Team Unicorn's dueling level was among the upper tier in the entire 5D's series, these three should have been ordinary professional duelists. They were strong, but they were normal humans who had nothing to do with the supernatural, conspiracies, dark forces, or the main plotline about destroying the world.
Why would someone like this be here? And why would he be interested in him?
"Tch. Avoiding conflict would have been best, but since you caught up so quickly, I guess I'll reluctantly play with you."
Breo from Team Unicorn smiled confidently.
"Let me test how strong the Director who 1v3'd in the first WRGP match really is.
Duel!"
[Kira, LP 4000]
[Breo, LP 4000]
"I go first. Draw!"
Breo drew for his first turn.
"I summon the Tuner monster Bicorn Re'em in Defense Position!"
Starlight exploded. The monster summoned beside Breo was a lion-like creature. It had messy red fur, a golden body with black stripes, and a pair of horns on its head as its most prominent feature.
[Bicorn Re'em, DEF 1600]
The entire Team Unicorn clearly had a strong fondness for the "horn" motif. Not only did all three of their helmets and Duel Runners feature horn decorations, but most of the monsters they used were species with obvious horns.
In the real-card version, Bicorn Re'em was changed into a regular Effect Monster, but in the original anime, it was a Tuner.
Breo: "Then I Set one card. End my turn!"
"My turn. Draw."
Kira drew, then casually summoned a monster.
"I summon Gearfried the Iron Knight!"
A classic old monster.
The black-armored knight slashed open the starlight vortex with his sword and advanced while floating beside the Duel Runner.
[Gearfried the Iron Knight, ATK 1800]
"Then I won't hold back—I'll attack directly." Kira said, "Go! Gearfried the Iron Knight, attack Bicorn Re'em!"
The knight charged forward, his sword blade slicing through the air. Just as the sword was about to land on Bicorn Re'em, Breo countered immediately.
"I activate my Set card, Counter Trap Negate Attack! When an opponent's monster declares an attack, negate that monster's attack, then end the Battle Phase immediately!"
The knight's powerful sword strike plunged into a transparent storm vortex and was forced back.
The transparent cyclone then formed a swirling barrier between the two sides, blocking any further attacks this turn.
Kira: "Protecting the Tuner monster to prepare for a Synchro Summon and a big push next turn, huh."
Breo laughed: "Heh, who knows?"
"Oh? Then I'll look forward to your strategy." Kira said, "I'll Set one card. End my turn."
The Set card floated beside the Duel Runner but vanished in an instant, as if it had dissolved into the high-speed environment.
Breo: "My turn, draw!
I summon Mine Mole!"
The summoned monster was a miner mole wearing a tiny hard hat with a glowing headlamp in front. Its chibi body held a small digging tool, and it had a little red flower on its nose. It looked serious yet comical.
[Mine Mole, ATK 1000]
"Level 4 Tuner monster Bicorn Re'em!
Level 3 Mine Mole!
Tuning!"
[4 + 3 = 7]
"Lightning soaring through the skies, slice through the sea of clouds and let your hooves pierce the earth! Synchro Summon——Voltic Bicorn!!!"
Like a blue-white lightning bolt striking down, the ground cracked with web-like electric traces. A majestic illusory beast appeared, stepping on thunderous light. Its body was covered in azure-blue fur, with lightning-patterned markings flowing faintly beneath the skin, as if high-voltage current surged within. Its green mane danced wildly like flames, every hair sparking with tiny electric arcs. A pair of massive lightning-shaped horns crowned its head, with electric arcs crackling at the tips and emitting snapping sounds.
[Voltic Bicorn, ATK 2500]
"My offense begins now!" Breo swept his right arm and declared.
"First, the effect of the Synchro Material Bicorn Re'em activates! When Bicorn Re'em is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro Material, send the top two cards of your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard! Come! Send the top two cards of your Deck to the Graveyard!"
Kira narrowed his eyes.
As expected.
This tactic was… Deck Destruction!
