Kelly POV
A psychic shockwave hit the city; every screen in Kael headquarters went dark. Just a moment before, the building was bright and normal. Stock projections scrolled across our screens, and the security systems hummed quietly, steady as always.
Next, everywhere went dark during the day.
Then the screaming began. People shouted below my office as emergency lights flashed red. The whole building groaned, like something heavy had crashed into its core.
I grabbed the edge of my desk hard enough that my knuckles ached. The air felt wrong, like I was standing too close to a storm seconds before the lightning struck.
"What the hell was that?" someone yelled through the internal comm system.
Static swallowed the answer. Then the pressure came.
