She nervously looked at the sky.
"Can we… can we continue building our houses?"
Bronski turned his head, looking at the worried genius girl.
The rage about to erupt in his chest miraculously subsided slightly.
He remembered William's words.
"Protect her, protect this island. That is your job."
Bronski took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the violent fighting spirit back into his heart.
He gave Lei Ling a smile that was uglier than a cry.
"Don't worry."
His voice was still deep, but with an undeniable firmness.
"With me here, no one can touch a single brick or tile."
...William was posing.
Spider-Man had already rushed to him in a flash.
"Mr. Rodriguez!"
Peter Parker's voice was filled with anxiety.
He even forgot to disguise his voice.
"I… I can't stay here any longer!"
"What?" William frowned.
Damn it, he just signed a contract, and he wants to run away before the work is done?
"Manhattan needs me!"
Spider-Man pointed in the direction of the blazing Fire in the distance.
"There are countless civilians there who need to be evacuated! I must go!"
After speaking, he bowed deeply to William.
Without waiting for William's reply, he shot out a web, swung into the air, and disappeared among the buildings in a few bounds.
William: "..."
He felt his blood pressure soaring.
This wasn't about money, damn it!
This was about professional ethics!
His "talent," hired for 1.5 million U.S. dollars, just ran off like that?
Where would he, a top agent, put his face?
He turned to argue with the other person, only to find that Moon Knight had long since vanished.
That White figure disappeared into the Shadow as silently as he had arrived.
Presumably, he also went to "uphold justice."
William was so angry his lungs were about to burst.
You heroes, do you think of anything else besides justice?
Like the spirit of a contract?
Like liquidated damages?
"Hey, don't look so gloomy, my insurance agent."
A mischievous voice sounded in his ear.
Deadpool hooked his shoulder, his other hand still fumbling around on himself, seemingly looking for the kidney that had been knocked out.
"Look on the bright side, just consider it a company outing where everyone collectively skipped work."
He took off his mask, revealing his pockmarked face, and winked at William.
"Speaking of which, is there a bar nearby? I've been fighting for so long, I'm a little thirsty. My treat, your bill."
William expressionlessly pushed him away.
He just wanted to find a quiet place now.
"We can't go to support them either."
Ava the White Tiger's voice came, as she helped the pale Matt Murdock, while Danny Rand clutched his chest, coughing violently nearby.
"Matt and Danny are seriously injured and must be taken to a safe place immediately."
Luke Cage walked over, looking at William with a complex expression.
He wished he had bought insurance back then.
"I'm tough, I'll go to Manhattan first to check the situation."
After saying that, he took large strides and ran towards the most intense fighting.
Jessica Jones stood still, hands on her hips.
She said nothing, only looking at William with an extremely complex gaze.
In that gaze was shock, confusion, inquiry, and even a hint of… vigilance.
After watching for a full ten seconds, she finally averted her gaze and spat.
"Damn."
She didn't ask anything, turned to call Ava, and led the two injured people in the opposite direction from the battlefield.
In a flash, the once lively scene was only left with William and Deadpool, who was still humming a tune.
William looked at the mess on the ground and his only remaining "asset" with no desire to fight.
He suddenly felt that doing business with heroes was simply too risky.
