Fudo Yusei, the person chosen by the ancient mythical beast Red Dragon, the future Duel King of New Domino City, the savior renowned throughout history, the child of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's world...
... Yet logically, he should be the child of the next version of the world!
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's clearly indicated that it shares the same world view as the previous two series, DM and GX, but did not provide details on how many years have passed.
However, the animation reveals a tragedy named "Zero Point Reversal" that split Domino City in half.
Originally born in the city's top district, Yusei, still an infant when the disaster struck, was launched via an escape pod by his scientist father to the impoverished Satellite District, where a kind lady named Martha found and raised him.
Yusei, as portrayed in the animation, is around eighteen years old, which implies that it's been at least several years since the Zero Point Reversal incident.
And obviously, until the end of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX timeline, the Zero Point Reversal incident had not yet occurred. So it seems likely that Yusei wasn't even born during the GX timeline.
Therefore, there's only one obvious explanation for the appearance of this Duel King from the future.
"What? Missed me and decided to come back often for a visit?" Youyu asked.
"Because there are some matters that require me to return no matter what... But that's not important right now." Yusei said, "My issues can be discussed later.
Mr. Youyu, you're currently dealing with the matter concerning Judai, aren't you?"
The students beside them exchanged puzzled looks.
They naturally had never met Yusei, and just thought this crab-headed guy, with a cold and cool demeanor, appeared very mature. With that non-mainstream hairstyle and a gold mark on his face like a scar, he looked like a mature member of society.
No matter how you looked at it, this crab-headed guy seemed older than these students, yet he respectfully called Judai "senpai," making the situation rather intriguing.
"You probably don't know, but future technology is amazing!" Mokuba enthusiastically told Youyu, "Yusei said he traveled back to the present on an ordinary motorcycle from the future... and even entered our 'Duel Links' system!"
Youyu was a bit surprised: "He entered the 'Duel Links' system... How did he get out?"
He glanced Yusei up and down.
Could it be that there's a logout button in the game world for dimension travel?
"This is what I want to tell you," Mokuba said excitedly, "He relied on that motorcycle! He directly rushed out of Duel Links on that bike!
Incredible, isn't it? I thought so too!
My brother is still researching how exactly he did it..."
Youyu thought that perhaps their research direction wasn't quite right because, in the strictest sense, space-time travel isn't achieved entirely with that motorcycle; it's mainly because he's the protagonist and has superpowers...
Yet hearing this, Youyu's thoughts expanded.
That's right, since Yusei is here, doesn't this mean... we can use his D-Wheel to travel to the Other Dimension?
Anyone who watched 5D's knows Yusei's D-Wheel is a truly versatile Divine Artifact. In the movie, he could ride it to travel through time to the past — and even squeezed Judai and Yugi the predecessors onto a single-seat for the three of them to time travel together.
The TV series explicitly explained "Accel Synchro can surpass even light," which simply means Yusei could ride it faster than light, jump space, perform Flash Fusion, and even escape from black holes, leaving starships from other sci-fi works far behind...
In the finale, his D-Wheel even had Energy Wings added, allowing it to fly freely while playing cards...
For a bigshot like him, dimension traveling should be a small case, shouldn't it?
However, Yusei quickly explained that it's not that simple. Don't think I just casually engage in time travel and space jumping; actually, riding a D-Wheel also follows basic rules.
At this point, you might ask, you've almost violated various physical laws, how can there be any basic rules left?
But that's not true.
Violating physical laws isn't a big deal because this is the Yu-Gi-Oh World, and the basic rule of the Yu-Gi-Oh World is only one—
—Playing cards.
Yusei could indeed space jump and escape black holes while riding, but those situations often occurred during his card duels.
"My D-Wheel only unleashes the fullest extent of the 'Moment' eternal machine within it when it's in operation, releasing 'Yusei Particles' to the maximum extent."
Yusei began explaining the setting.
"'Yusei Particles' are fundamental to everything and greatly advance human science in the future." Yusei said, "But it's only through the 'Riding Duel' that the Moment can operate fully, releasing its strongest energy."
Youyu nodded in understanding.
It's really not hard to comprehend, basically, it's all about card dueling, and one has to ride while doing it...
5D's was quite miraculous as a work. When it was first released, ninety percent of viewers thought "dueling on motorcycles destroys all perception," and were completely unable to accept it.
However, once they watched 5D's, ninety percent of viewers now think "how can you duel without motorcycles?"
However, this raises an issue.
As the saying goes, it takes two to tango; Riding Duel requires both opponents to be on D-Wheels. Currently, there's only Yusei's D-Wheel, so how can they duel?
You can't possibly have Yusei dueling while riding in circles and the other person standing in the center motionless, can you?
Just imagining that scene is absurd...
Unexpectedly, this issue has already been tackled by the almighty Kaiba Group.
"That 'D-Wheel' motorcycle, my brother already replicated one!" Mokuba said.
Youyu almost spat out his drink.
Kaiba actually created a D-Wheel?
No way! In this era, there's not even a prototype of the eternal machine; how could he build a D-Wheel?
But Mokuba followed up with an explanation, "Although it's barely a replica, the performance and basic functionalities seem to lack quite a bit.
This prototype can only activate when battling an opponent with a real D-Wheel. Because we haven't figured out how to produce those 'Yusei Particles' yet, only when the opponent's D-Wheel operates and releases 'Yusei Particles', our prototype can start using the opponent's 'Yusei Particles.'
Youyu: "… Is Kaiba so determined to make a D-Wheel?"
Mokuba whispered to him, "Because my brother had an unresolved duel with Yusei before. Later, he heard Yusei could fully unleash his power only through 'Riding Duels,' so he insists on building a D-Wheel to challenge him once more..."
Youyu: "......"
What else can be said?
Indeed, the president's card addiction is the first motive force...
