"Transformation Pot and Nightmare Penguin?" DD frowned, "Are you trying to use Nightmare Penguin's bounce effect to deal with Blood Demon D?
But Kida! I told you, as long as Blood Demon D is on the field, all your monsters are blank slates, their effects can't activate…"
"Only 'on the field'." Yugen said, "Blood Demon D can negate all my monsters' effects if they're on the field, but what if they're not on the field?"
"What?"
"Speed Attack Magic 'Mysterious Chinese Pot', sacrifices the monsters on the field to recover LP equal to their Attack Power or Defense Power."
Yugen waved his hand.
"I sacrifice 'Transformation Pot',"
[Transformation Pot, Attack Power 700]
"Recover LP equal to Transformation Pot's Attack Power."
[Yugen, LP3300→ LP4000]
"Recovered LP?" DD frowned, "But even if you recovered LP, it doesn't mean anything in front of Blood Demon D..."
But as he said this, he realized something was wrong, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
No, this is…!?
"Seems like you noticed." Yugen smiled slightly, "Exactly. When Transformation Pot's effect was processed, it was already sacrificed to the graveyard by the Chinese Pot, so the effect was processed in the graveyard, not on the field. Therefore, this effect won't be negated by Blood Demon D."
The same move was used to deal with Saio's Light Barrier not long ago, a classic card game tactic of sacrificial escape.
"And the effect of Transformation Pot..."
DD was once again shocked in his heart.
Oh no, the effect of this pot is...
"Correct. Transformation Pot forces both of us to discard all cards in hand and then draw five cards."
Yugen pointed to the top of DD's card deck.
"And you must draw five cards, including the one at the top of your deck, 'D-Power' into your hand."
"I see!" Ed suddenly understood, "'D-Power' can release Blood Demon D's hidden power only when it's face-up on top of the deck, but if it's drawn..."
All of Blood Demon D's hidden abilities would be nullified!
"Moreover, I activate 'Light of the Desert' to flip my monsters on the field, both 'Transformation Pot' and 'Nightmare Penguin' have mandatory effects.
When two mandatory effects trigger at the same time, I can freely choose which one to activate first and which one to follow."
This is what card players commonly refer to as "self-chaining."
The principle is very simple, in the same chain in Yu-Gi-Oh!, the effect that activates first is processed last. So following this rule, when multiple mandatory effects trigger simultaneously, by placing the effect you want to process first at the back of the chain, you can freely decide the order of different effects.
"So among these two effects, I choose to activate the effect of 'Nightmare Penguin' first, targeting 'Destiny Hero: Blood Demon D' to bounce Blood Demon D back to the hand.
Chain 2 then activates Transformation Pot's effect, causing both sides to discard their hands and draw five cards.
Chain 3 follows with 'Mysterious Chinese Pot', sacrificing Transformation Pot to ensure its effect isn't negated by Blood Demon D."
Yugen explained.
"Therefore, Transformation Pot avoided Blood Demon D's restriction by sacrificing for escape, and both sides drew five cards. Since 'D-Power' left the top of your deck, Blood Demon D lost its ability to 'negate opponent monster effects', as well as the targeting resistance granted by D-Power."
"Finally, it's the effect of 'Nightmare Penguin' that was activated first. By the time Nightmare Penguin's effect resolves, D-Power is no longer on the field, and all of Blood Demon D's resistances and suppressions have disappeared, so Nightmare Penguin's effect goes through."
Yugen lightly hooked his finger towards the opponent's field.
"Bounce 'Destiny Hero: Blood Demon D' back to the hand."
With a series of chains, ultimately the effects of both Reversed Monsters were successfully executed. Blood Demon D roared unwillingly, but was still enveloped by a towering water column beneath it, leaving it no choice but to transform into a blood arrow and fly back into DD's hand.
Of course, with Blood Demon D leaving the field, the Chaos Warrior that was absorbed as equipment also returned to Yugen's side and quietly went to the grave.
DD's eyes widened, full of disbelief.
"Impossible!"
"Blood Demon D fortified by D-Power is invincible, how could it be cracked!?"
Ed watched the dazzling series of changes on the field, feeling equally shocked as a Professional Duelist.
Sacrificial escape, self-chaining... It seemed like the almost unsolvable Blood Demon D was so easily dismantled with a few simple combinations of weak cards.
Of course, from Yugen's perspective, it was really nothing noteworthy.
Isn't this all just basic card playing operation?
In this day and age of card games, who doesn't know the basics of self-chaining?
"Cover three more cards, end the turn."
"Damn it, you dared to take my Blood Demon D..."
DD glanced at his hand, then menacingly looked up and said.
"You'll regret this."
Ed was amazed by Yugen's performance, but after the initial emotion, he couldn't help but feel a sense of impending doom.
Although he skillfully dismantled the opponent's field, the crisis is far from over. Both Blood Demon D and D-Power only returned to DD's hand with this series of moves, like an invisible timed explosive.
As long as he gathers three sacrifices, Blood Demon D will descend again, and D-Power can be activated any time...
DD was once the world champion, and now he seems even stronger than Ed recalls. He has no doubt that gathering three sacrifices again won't be too difficult for DD.
"My turn, draw!"
As expected, DD's eyes were already gleaming with ferocity as he laughed and said.
"Your impressive counterattack is just delaying the inevitable! If you're so terrified of Ultimate D's power, this turn I'll immediately..."
"Activate a cover card." Yugen waved his hand expressionlessly, "Trap Card 'Spiritual Breakdown'.
Declare a card name. If your opponent happens to have that card in their hand, all of those cards must be discarded."
DD's arrogant expression suddenly froze.
Ah?
Declare the opponent's hand, doesn't that mean...
"I declare 'D-Power'." Yugen said, "If you have 'D-Power' in your hand, kindly discard it."
He even said please.
Of course, he could have declared Blood Demon D. But he's not sure if, in the animation, there's a revival restriction for Blood Demon D. If there isn't, it could be pulled up effortlessly with a simple 'Revive the Dead' or some other Revive Card, effectively helping the opponent.
And even if there is a revival restriction, normally there are many more means to recover Monster Cards than Magic Cards. Monsters in the graveyard are mostly resources, while Magic is generally hard to reuse.
Furthermore, in Blood Demon D's system in the animation, without D-Power, Blood Demon D poses almost no threat. He has no effect resistance, and no ability to nullify the opponent's entire field, only a pathetically low 1900 point stat as an Eight-Star Monster.
Oh right, it can absorb an opponent's monster and gain its power. But now Yugen has a Transformation Pot and a Penguin on the field, letting it absorb either has no impact.
Judging from the grimace on DD's face that twisted into a snarl, he knew he probably made the right choice.
"Kisama (you scoundrel)!"
