Chapter 23 - Elite Rotten

After the celebratory mood passed, Ren was still not satisfied; he still had to clear the cave. The celebration had to be put on hold for now. There was a palpable feeling that things were not yet finished, and this was just the beginning. More challenges lay ahead.

He immediately prepared to delve deeper. Ren's floating lights were dimming, prompting him to cast another one. Making him cast once again to light up their surroundings.

The three arrived at a dividing path with left and right roads. The left path was heading to the Brutes and the right path was heading to the Rotten undead.

In Ren's mind, they have to clear the cave, and a weaker enemy should be killed first and a more brutal enemy should be the latter. In his suggestion, the others agreed without second thoughts. Making the two to decide where to head next.

They decided to explore the cavern on the left side first, where they would face the Rotten Undead. Those were a zombified human that had its rebellious soul unrest for many many years.

As far as Ren remembered, there was an elite one among them: a Rotten Undead that had resistance to ice and dealt high damage, though it had a slow attack speed like the others. However, Ren had no resistance to ice damage, which meant they would be at a disadvantage in this fight. To make matters worse, he was already panting.

He moved toward their location, where dead bodies were scattered around. The undead were slouching and moving slowly but were groaning; they had a much better sense of detection than the imps, able to sense life as a skill.

As such, they were more dangerous than imps if they think they were an assassin. Sneak and hide was ineffective against them. And so, they were not, and then they were at ease. Sneaky play style was not their style but full brawl and front line combat.

And so, they would attack and fight an open all out battle.

Ren equipped his wand and prepared to attack. There were seven of them in total, and it would be a hassle if he got surrounded. And so, he acted. He summoned mana and then he fired soul blasts at them.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Three Soul Blasts were fired, striking the Rottens. To his surprise, they were more resilient and hardy than normal enemies. It took 4 to 5 Soul Fires to kill one, turning the battle into a hard-fought struggle. His mana quickly dwindled as all of them began attacking him.

Such a heavy and taxing playstyle! He quickly switched to melee, dashing forward and swinging his sword, freezing one enemy in place. He slashed at the three that survived the Soul blasts, attacking them in quick succession.

The elite Rotten was resistant, but it wasn't immune to physical damage, and he slashed it several times. However, Ren made a blunder and was hit once by the elite, freezing him and slowing his movements.

It was a blunder and would cost his life if he would make a mistake. Luckily, he has his teammates with him to the rescue. They immediately pulled him up.

Roan quickly pulled him out of the enemies' attack range. Ren felt like a statue, frozen and vulnerable. They were in chaos. Ren nearly died there. And so he was reprimanded.

"What were you thinking?" Roan asked, anger creeping into his voice.

"I'm sorry," Ren replied, panting. He stood up, shivering as the freezing effect wore off, gritting his teeth while still feeling somewhat slowed.

Roan and Rick pulled his sleeves upward and said, "Let us handle this."

Roan and Rick attacked and they hacked and slashed the enemies. Making them have significant damage from their numbers. They culled them down with just the to of them. Rick sputtered lightnings one after another while Roan clawed them all in a blinding speed. They used their skills Summon Elemental Vines and Summon Ravens. Making the enemies to get damaged. Elemental vines spewed at them and Ravens to blind their foes.

They created chaos, making them to make the enemies to lose morale in their ranks. Ren saw how capable his teammates were and then they continued to attack with their numbers.

Then, Ren summoned a Skeleton, which rose from the ground near him, its burning eyes glowing in the dark. It looked at Ren, and with just a thought, he controlled it to attack the enemies. The Skeleton ran into the fray, using the same tactics as its summoner, slashing three times in a second, showcasing its speed and power. Ren was surprised by his summon's prowess, recalling that it used the same move he had made against the Master Devil recently.

The Skeleton dashed and slashed while rotating, knocking down the Rotten Undead with each strike. The elite one attempted to hit him again, but Ren dashed forward to assist his summon. He slashed twice in a second while the Skeleton tanked the elite's attacks, allowing Kenji to deal damage. Meanwhile, Ren supported from the back, using flames to burn the enemies whenever he saw an opportunity to throw fireballs.

Through their coordinated efforts, the enemies fell one by one, and the Skeleton delivered the final blow, decapitating the elite.

"Yes! Good job!" Ren shouted. Then afterwards, they looted the enemies. Sadly no loot could be found.

The Skeleton remained silent while Roan and Rick gave Ren a thumbs-up.

[Level Up!]

[Level 4]

"Wow a level up!" Rick was surprised, these creatures were having huge amounts of experience points. They could reach level 5 in another round of battle. With that, they prepared for the next one.

The three then moved back to the right side of the cavern, heading toward the master of this cave—the Brutes. They were giants that had overgrown bodies and uses lumbers as their clubs as weapons.

Ren anticipated a more perilous battle against a dreadful enemy. Looking at his summon, he felt reassured by its determined, glowing eyes, ready to show its strength.
