Chapter 88 - 87. The Crown Beneath the Waves.

"True peace does not arrive with banners and applause — it seeps in quietly, like light into the deep."

The Tide of Recognition

The Atlantic shimmered like liquid sapphire as the world watched from their screens.

For the first time in recorded history, an underwater kingdom — Atlantis and its kingdoms have been granted permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.

The ceremony was held not in New York but on the Floating Forum, a massive structure built through the combined engineering might of WayneTech, LexCorp and Atlantean architects. The air shimmered faintly with protective barriers, sunlight refracting through the transparent dome above — as if the sea itself wanted to attend.

Flags from every nation swayed in the artificial breeze and in the center stood the Atlantean royal standard, rippling with regal calm.

Queen Mera and King Arthur Curry — Aquaman — stood before the assembly, adorned in ceremonial garb.

On the dais beside them were Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, The Flash and Lex Luthor himself — the unlikely figure now dressed in a modest suit not armor. His demeanor was calm, composed… humbled even in the presence of what they had achieved together.

"Today," the Secretary-General's voice echoed, "we recognize that peace is not a myth. It is the product of courage, of compromise… and of vision."

Thunderous applause filled the air. Even the sea outside roared softly in rhythm as citizens of Atlantis, first time in living memory bathed in actual sunlight in front of surface dwellers who aren't heroes.

As the crowd settled, a row of medals gleamed beneath the dome lights — the Nobel Peace Prize, to be awarded jointly to the Justice League, Lex Luthor and the Atlantean royal couple.

Flash whispered under his breath, "Never thought I'd see Luthor getting a peace prize. What's next, Joker opening a daycare?"

Batman didn't even blink. "Don't tempt fate."

Wonder Woman's lips curved slightly. "Even redemption wears strange faces, sometimes. But why is the initiator of this great endeavour not receiving the same honour?"

Superman sighed."Because he doesn't need recognition. He demands tranquility."

The Nobel Peace Prize

When the applause died down, the awards were presented one by one — Aquaman and Mera first, then the League, then Lex.

Reporters surged like waves as the ceremony concluded.

Mera spoke first — her voice resonant, regal, carrying both strength and warmth.

"Atlantis has lived in isolation for millennia. Today, we no longer look upward with suspicion, nor downward with pride. We look forward — as equals."

The crowd erupted again, camera flashes like tiny stars.

Arthur rested a hand over hers and when his turn came, his voice was quieter, but resolute.

"We didn't get here because of politics or weapons. We got here because someone reminded us all that survival without understanding is just another kind of war."

Reporters leaned forward instantly — sensing the shift.

"Are you referring to King?" Someone shouted from the front.

Arthur's gaze flickered toward the sea through the dome, where faint ripples shimmered as if acknowledging something unseen.

"Yes." He said simply. "To King."

The Questions

Now the press descended like a storm.

"Is King an alien?"

"Is he some kind of god?"

"Is he affiliated with the Justice League?"

"Why didn't he receive the Nobel prize?"

"Was he created by Atlantis? A scientific experiment gone right or wrong?"

The crowd turned toward Superman, who was standing calmly beside Batman and Wonder Woman.

He glanced at them once — they both nodded.

Clark Kent, standing not as a reporter but as the symbol of truth itself, stepped toward the microphones.

His expression was calm, measured but the compassion in his eyes silenced the crowd before he even spoke.

"You want to know what King is," he said softly. "And you should. Because he's not a myth and he's not beyond question. He just doesn't answer."

The cameras clicked. The world leaned closer.

"King is… not a god. Not in the way you think. He doesn't demand worship and he doesn't rule. He simply acts. He's power without vanity, purpose without ego. He is might made manifest."

Superman's gaze drifted upward — to the artificial dome, to the sunlight glinting on water.

"If you ask me, King represents something we've all forgotten — the strength to do what must be done without needing recognition for it. He's not one of us, one of the league but he's not apart from us either. He walks between as a reminder of what responsibility looks like when stripped of reward."

There was silence. Then another reporter called out,

"So… you're saying he's human?"

Superman smiled faintly. "Yes. But human potential made limitless."

Reflections Beneath the Waves

Far beneath the Floating Forum, where no camera could reach, something stirred.

A faint distortion in the current — the water shifting around a lone figure standing upon the ocean floor.

King watched through the glass-like veil of the sea, observing the light refracting through the surface above.

Voices reached him in muffled echoes — applause, gratitude, misunderstanding.

"They name peace like it's a trophy," King murmured. "But peace is not the end. It is a heartbeat that must be guarded."

He turned his gaze toward a drifting school of fish, weaving through coral — a living tapestry of motion.

"And when the heartbeat falters… I will remind them again."

The sea rippled once — then stilled.

When the currents cleared, he was gone.

Epilogue

Later that night, as the world celebrated the dawn of a connected Earth, Bruce stood on the Watchtower's observation deck beside Clark.

"You meant what you said about him." Bruce said quietly.

Clark nodded. "I did."

"He's watching us, even now."

"Probably." Clark said, smiling faintly. "But for once, I think that's a good thing."

Bruce exhaled slowly. "Let's just hope the world doesn't forget why he came."

Clark turned toward the Earth below — a planet shimmering with promise, fragile and beautiful.

"Then we'll remind them," He said softly. "Together."
