Chapter 98 - Chapter 97: Leo Causes Trouble: Will the Avengers Civil War Be Brought Forward?

While Sharon Carter was taking Steve to see his old flame, Peggy Carter, Leo wasn't idle.

Every move of S.H.I.E.L.D. was under Red Queen's surveillance, including the cameras in Nick Fury's office and all audio equipment — every monitoring tool he had at his disposal.

"Master, Red Queen just detected that Nick Fury sent Steve to Peggy Carter. Steve has successfully been won over," she reported.

"What's even more interesting," she continued, "is that Alexander Pierce is manipulating Sharon Carter somehow. I don't know what leverage he's using, but now things are messy."

"It's probably Pierce threatening Sharon with Peggy's safety. These old foxes are fascinating," Red Queen added.

"They play their schemes expertly. Everyone's attention is on Steve, and they're all plotting against him."

Leo laughed heartily. "This S.H.I.E.L.D. is a palace drama. Too exciting! Various forces are making grand entrances."

He stroked his chin, grinning slyly.

"Other forces are surely watching Steve as well. Red Queen, search Pierce's computer for information on the Winter Soldier — Bucky Barnes. Find out where he's hiding in Siberia."

"Since everyone's in the game, they should have some fun too," Leo said.

"The waters must be stirred as murky as possible, otherwise it wouldn't be fair to all my hard work pulling Steve out. Let the quagmire be chaotic — so we can fish in troubled waters."

Red Queen's speed was unmatched.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s defenses were paper in front of her, and Pierce's computer protections were useless.

"Found it. HYDRA Base, northeast of the Archidos Mountains in Siberia. Coordinates: 33°N, 65°E. He just completed a mission and is now in dormant state," she reported.

"Good. That's more like it," Leo nodded. "I really don't have many people under me. My Justice League needs building. If I do everything myself, I lose too much face."

He imagined the scene: thousands of subordinates rushing forward, the gravitas of a true boss, like Thanos with the Black Order and billions of Chitauri troops.

After a brief daydream, Leo teleported to Siberia. The cold hit him immediately — winter in October was brutal.

"Damn HYDRA," he muttered. "They sure know how to pick a place. Only ghosts would come here."

Red Queen's voice crackled in his earpiece. "Master, the signal here is cut off. I can't hack the network. They only connect externally occasionally."

"No matter," Leo shrugged.

But HYDRA had already detected his presence.

"Officer, someone is outside sneaking around. We don't know his purpose," a soldier reported.

The Base Officer frowned. "Strange… he's coming for us. Whatever his goal, it isn't good."

"Send a team to capture him alive. If not, kill him," the Officer ordered.

Soldiers readied themselves, but before they could move, the entire Base shook violently.

"An earthquake? This isn't an earthquake zone!"

"Ah! No! The building is deforming!"

"Metal… moving! Mutant!"

Chaos erupted instantly. Soldiers screamed and ran through the halls.

The Base became a scene of panic — everyone regretted not having more legs to escape faster.
