Chapter 347: Temporary Farewell
The new Enterprise's first official voyage concluded successfully after several weeks.
This voyage not only verified the stability of the Warp 8 engine but also allowed the Void Shield system and the Directed Reconstruction System to undergo preliminary testing in a true space environment.
Akira's database was filled with detailed operational parameters and performance reports; these first-hand materials far exceeded his expectations.
After the voyage concluded, in a conference room at Starfleet Headquarters, Akira formally bid farewell to Kirk, Spock, Scott, and several high-ranking Federation officials.
"The necessary test data has been collected," his synthesized voice stated evenly. "I plan to return to my dimension. The results of this exchange have been remarkable. Thank you all for your cooperation."
A brief silence fell over the conference room.
Kirk took a step forward, looking at him sincerely: "Magos, the Federation truly hopes you can stay. What you brought is not just technological breakthroughs, but more importantly, those unconventional ways of thinking. Your departure will be a massive loss for us."
The captain couldn't help but recall the moments of crisis they had experienced together—from the breakthrough progress in warp theory, to the stasis grenade that turned the tide at a critical moment, to those philosophical discussions that provoked deep thought.
Spock added in his signature rational posture: "Analyzed from a logical perspective, your continued participation would significantly elevate the Federation's research and development efficiency in fields such as materials science and energy physics. The knowledge systems of our two civilizations possess obvious complementarity; maintaining this exchange holds long-term value for both sides."
Scott couldn't help but scratch his head, his tone carrying an engineer's typical bluntness: "To be honest, who are we going to consult for those special solutions when we encounter tricky engineering problems in the future?"
He was referring to Akira's unique ideas that fused otherworldly engineering.
An official from the Science Council, dressed in a formal uniform, stepped forward to make an official statement on behalf of the Federation: "Mr. Akira, given your outstanding contributions to the technological development of the Federation, we have conferred upon you the status of Honorary Scientist. We have prepared perfect research conditions and ample resource support for you, hoping you will reconsider this decision."
Akira's gaze swept over everyone present; he could parse the sincerity and respect from these attempts to retain him.
During this time, he had indeed established an effective cooperative model with these Federation elites.
"My itinerary is already set," Akira's synthesized voice sounded steadily, then his tone shifted. "However, this departure is not a final farewell. I have recorded the coordinates of this dimension on file. When the conditions are right, I will visit again."
He deliberately paused for a moment, letting this information settle in everyone's minds.
Just as everyone was still digesting this news, he continued: "The exchange of knowledge should not be interrupted here. Perhaps the next time we meet, I will bring some... more challenging subjects, and I will need to rely on everyone's professional expertise to solve them together."
His crimson optical lenses slowly swept over Spock and the several chief scientists. The underlying implication hinted that those unrevealed technical difficulties involving deeper principles were waiting for the right time to be explored.
This farewell, bearing a clear promise, effectively alleviated the heavy atmosphere of parting.
Kirk and Spock exchanged a knowing look; they both understood that for an entity capable of freely traversing dimensions, conventional attempts at retention were indeed meaningless.
Being able to secure a promise to return, and continuing to maintain this mutually beneficial knowledge sharing, was already the most ideal outcome under the current circumstances.
In the main banquet hall of Starfleet Headquarters, a solemn farewell ceremony was underway. This arched-dome hall, which had once been the historic site for the signing of the United Federation of Planets Charter, now gathered members of the Federation Science Council, high-ranking generals of Starfleet Command, and the core scientists who had participated in the cooperative projects.
Kirk was dressed in full dress uniform, his chest covered in medals symbolizing outstanding service.
He stood at the podium in the center of the hall, his voice steady and powerful: "On behalf of the United Federation of Planets, I extend my highest gratitude to Mr. Akira. During this period of cooperation, you not only helped us break through technological bottlenecks, but more importantly, you taught us to view the relationship between science and civilization from a completely new perspective."
The President of the Federation Science Council also delivered a formal address, announcing Akira as a "Federation Honorary Science Advisor" and awarding him the Starfleet Highest Scientific Contribution Medal.
Twelve authoritative scholars from various academic fields stepped forward one by one to exchange academic farewells with this otherworldly visitor.
Akira's mechanical body gleamed with a dark red luster beneath the dazzling crystal chandelier; he maintained appropriate etiquette and poise throughout.
When accepting the medal, he leaned forward slightly; when conversing with the scholars, he patiently answered technical details; when facing official speeches, he gave perfectly tailored responses.
These actions all reflected his cherishing of this cross-dimensional cooperative relationship.
After the grand farewell ceremony concluded, in accordance with Akira's wishes and safety protocols, the new Enterprise undertook the final escort mission.
This starship, having just completed its maiden voyage, now carried the mission of seeing off their otherworldly friend. It adjusted its course and sailed smoothly toward the planet housing the Genesis Cave, where Akira had initially arrived in this universe.
In the relatively open area deep within the cave, Akira came to a halt.
Mann and his squad members had long since assembled; they stood silently behind Akira.
Akira's massive mechanical body turned toward the direction of the cave entrance, as if he could pierce through the rock walls and see the starship waiting in orbit.
He didn't issue any further communications. His crimson optical lenses flashed slightly as he began to execute a set of complex and precise operations.
As energy converged, the space in the center of the cave began to emit a low hum. An extremely unstable dimensional rift, similar to the one they arrived through, was torn open once again. Its interior was radiant with flowing lights and emitted heart-palpitating, unknown energy fluctuations.
The moment the rift stabilized, Akira turned his head and sent a final, concise communication toward the direction of the Enterprise: "Departing."
Without another word, he took the lead, his massive body plunging into that bizarre, multicolored rift without hesitation.
Mann's squad followed closely behind. The team members, with firm steps, entered one by one, their figures quickly swallowed by the distorted light and shadows.
On the bridge of the Enterprise, Kirk, Spock, Scott, and the others silently watched all of this through the sensors.
They watched the figures of Akira and Mann's squad disappear deep into the rift. They watched the channel that had briefly connected the two worlds begin to violently fluctuate and contract, ultimately completely closing into the normal spatial structure like a healing wound, leaving no trace behind.
The cave returned to darkness and silence, as if nothing had ever happened. Only the new Enterprise, still hovering in its original position, proved that the cross-dimensional farewell just moments ago was not an illusion.
Kirk stared at the empty space on the main viewscreen. After a long time, he softly issued the command: "Set course for home."
The new Enterprise gracefully turned its bow, its engines emitting a soft glow.
