Chapter 97 - Test Successful.

'Damn… this is hard…'

As Haruto expected, the task was quite difficult to perform blind without having first actually mapped out the internals of the human body.

Kakashi's preliminary torture lessons about the human body brought Haruto close to being able to picture the internals of the human body but even that wasn't enough since the man was hanging upside down with his organs squished around his ribcage very differently.

But what helped even more was Haruto's improved chakra control. It was working, just secretly, to improve the feedback he got from his scan of the man's body, working lightly by moving just where he wanted, gently, while giving him an almost tactile touch like sixth sense.

"What? Don't tell me something as simple as this is enough to stump you? You're useless after all!"

Ignoring the snide comments that Daichi was making, Haruto focused on the task at hand. He closed his eyes and dove deep into the sensory feedback he obtained from scanning the body.

'There's a thick substance… that's blood… I'm after something thinner, something more fluid and easy to dissolve.'

Haruto's hands tightened around the man hanging as he groaned in pain.

With the way it was looking, the man was going to die before Haruto ever removed the poison from him simply due to blood loss if the puddle underneath their feet was anything to go by.

So Haruto pumped in more chakra into the man, digging deep into his physical energy reserves to generate more chakra before slipping it into the wounds available to him.

As Haruto's chakra infused into the man, he slowly became able to get a better picture of the man's internals.

And soon, Haruto found his first clue.

'The poison is less dense than blood, it's coagulated around the surface of the organs after it is pumped by the heart.'

Having a target set in his mind, Haruto looked deeper into the man's body, using his chakra to scrape the surface of his organs to gather any amount of poison he could.

Minutes ticked by as the man's groans became fainter and fainter, however before long Haruto had done it!

A thin stream of purplish liquid emerged out of the cut above the man's lungs before floating gently in the air.

Haruto opened his eyes and found Daichi looking at him with a scrutinising gaze.

"Where should I bottle the poison? I found twenty eight milliliters, missing two but I think the remaining two will probably be inside his skull, that'll take me a few more seconds."

Daichi nodded silently and flicked out a bottle from his pocket which Haruto grabbed from the air and used to store the poison without touching it.

Next Haruto silently searched for the poison in the skull and quickly managed to wring it out of the folds in the brain but to his disappointment the man had already taken his last breath.

The body now lay limp from the chains hanging him from the ceiling so Daichi commanded once again, "Take the man down, we'll conduct an autopsy next."

'....no curses?' Haruto noticed but wisely kept his mouth shut.

"Why an autopsy? He died right in front of us, didn't he?" Haruto asked his doubt quietly, owing to the thought about no question being stupid and he was partially glad he asked because what Daichi said next prepared him for the imminent disgust he was about to feel.

"Before you arrived, he confessed to swallowing important intel, if we're quick about it the stomach acid wouldn't have digested the scroll so we can get to it and hand it over to the intelligence wing."

"Got it…" Haruto nodded, pleased that his demonstration of chakra control earlier had helped ease some of the tension between him and Daichi otherwise the rest of their time together was going to be torturous.

Haruto fiddled with the lever to get the chained man down for a minute before he managed to find the switch on it that allowed him to unlock it and flick it down to let the man down.

Then he grabbed the heavy man and used all his strength to haul him onto the table provided in the cell.

"What are you waiting for… let's get started." Daichi finally spoke in a slightly brash way before grabbing a kunai and slicing open the man's stomach with a single cut.

Haruto rolled up his sleeves and dove in finger first into the slimy guts of the man he'd just helped kill.

It took a while but Haruto moved his hands through the sludgy body rather quickly and chanced upon the scroll by sheer effort while doing a grid based search.

And he was thankful he did because the squelching sounds that came when combined with the slimy sensation of running his hands through another man's organs reminded him of the genjutsu that Kakashi had recently put him under.

"There… got it!" Haruto exclaimed and brought out the tiny palm sized scroll out of the man's stomach, it was lodged in the man's esophagus so the extraction took a bit of finagling but he got it securely in the end.

But it seemed that Daichi was once again disappointed by Haruto.

"Are you an idiot?! Why didn't you just use the Poison Extraction Jutsu to scan the man's stomach first before getting all that blood on yourself?"

"..."

Haruto handed over the scroll to Daichi and stood aside with a dumb look on his face.

'...why didn't I do that?'

Haruto looked down on himself and looked at the spurts of blood that had squirted onto his dress from him moving around in the man's guts quickly.

'Am I becoming a blood maniac?'

'Oh… god no!'

After several more 'practical lessons' with some filled with cursing, Haruto dragged his exhausted body to training ground seven.

Kakashi and Naruto were not present, but Haruto hadn't come here for them. Haruto had come here to show his captors today that he'd finally mastered advanced Genin to beginner Chunin level chakra control exercises, namely, tree walking.

With an exhausted body, Haruto took a step towards the tree and placed his foot onto it, with his left foot firmly stuck Haruto took the next step and planted his right foot firmly onto the tree.

Next he unstuck his left foot and took a step forward.

A step that had been hauntingly difficult only a day ago, something that caused him to tremble a little each time he did it, was now as simple as breathing.

'Why was I even so annoyed about the difficulty before… it's so easy…'

With the first step on the tree trunk taken, Haruto continued walking fearlessly, and he walked all the way to the top in a single go!

With a self satisfied smile while standing upside down from the tree with his feet stuck to a branch, Haruto looked on at the scenery around training ground seven. The tree was quite tall so it allowed him the leisure of peeking through the remaining tree line.

And he had to admit it, it felt good.

'Now… to go back down, and finally go home and take a short rest on my glorious state provided bed!'

With that Haruto walked back down the tree and back home without stopping anywhere else on his way before collapsing into his bed and relaxing for the day.

'Fufufu… You still have your training to do Haruto-kun…'
