"Si-un" Kai's voice was calm.
Si-un immediately brightened. "Kai-nim!". He practically launched himself forward, arms spread wide.
Kai stopped him by placing a hand against his face.
Si-un continued struggling for a few seconds.
It achieved absolutely nothing.
I held back a laugh.
At least some things hadn't changed.
Baek Si-un would spend hours mocking the original Hanseong for being obsessed with Taehyun.
Yet somehow he never saw the irony of following Kai around like a lost puppy.

Kai's gaze shifted past Si-un. His ice blue eyes landed on me.
For the first time since entering the room, his passive expression changed slightly.

Yuri cleared her throat "Esper Kai". He turned his attention to her and when he saw grandfather seated at the head of the table, his stoic expression faltered for this first time.
He bowed immediately "President Jung"

Grandfather simply waved at Kai and he straightened and sat down.

Si-un immediately sat down beside his esper, keeping his cute demeanor intact. "Do you need guiding Kai-nim?'
"No" Kai's response was cold and direct.

Suddenly a swarm of men in black entered the room. The conversation died instantly.
Even Si-un sat up straighter.
The agents spread out around the room, checking corners, windows, and exits.
'What is this?'

A man stepped through the doorway, he scanned the room then his gaze landed on Yuri. "I specifically asked for the four S-class Espers to be present. Why is only Kai here?"
'Excuse me? Why is he summoning the big 4?'

Yuri chuckled nervously "Well..."

"We're supposed to reduce civilian damage not make it worse!" Hae-rin snapped as she intercepted the first monster's massive claw with her bow.
Behind her, half a building collapsed in a cloud of dust.
A purple-haired man rested his scythe across his shoulders, grinning lazily. "I killed the second one, didn't I?"
Hae-rin pinched the bridge of her nose before she delivered a skull crushing blow to the monster. "That's not the point"
"Esper Tae-sun, Marry me!" a civilian girl screamed, waving a glowing poster from the evacuation zone.
Hae-rin stared at her. Then at the burning street.
Then at the fifty-foot monster currently destroying a shopping center.
"Why?"
The girl gasped "She spoke to me! Esper Hae-rin spoke—"
Tae-sun appeared behind the girl in a blink of an eye and knocked her out gently with the flat of his scythe. He winked at Hae-rin."I'll be back my sweet"
"If you call me that one more time, I'll kill you myself."
"Aww."
The monster lunged at Hae-rin. She didn't even blink. An arrow pierced its neck.
The creature crashed into the street with a thunderous thud.
The black vortex swirling in the sky suddenly vanished.
Tae-sun tilted his head in confusion still carrying the civilian girl. "Another unstable gate?"
Hae-rin's expression became extremely dark. The number of unstable S-Class gates had skyrocketed since the Jeju incident. Three days. Eight gates. They were appearing almost daily now.
And nobody knew why.
Tae-sun's usual playful smile finally disappeared. "We need to address this..."
Hae-rin didn't answer. She was already staring at the place where the gate had vanished.
Her grip tightened around her bow. "We should..."
Tae-sun nodded thoughtfully then his face went pale for a second "Umm...Hae-rin, The meeting with the president?"
Hae-rin's shoulders tensed. Right... How could she forget.
"Let's go"
Tae-sun hurriedly handed the unconscious civilian to an evacuation officer before appearing beside Hae-rin.
