While the Straw Hat Crew was feasting at the altar of Upper Yard, in a field belonging to Sky Knight Gan Fall, Gan Fall and Pagaya were chatting as Conis softly played music nearby.
"How is it? Isn't it great?" Gan Fall said proudly as he watered his pumpkin patch. "The pumpkin harvest is excellent this year."
Pagaya bowed slightly. "I really don't know how to thank you enough. You've even gotten dragged into our trouble…"
Residents of Skypiea lived under a harsh rule:
If a "Blue Sea" person entered Skypiea, they must be taken to God's Island to undergo trial. Failure to do so meant death.
Pagaya and Conis had been saved by Gan Fall when the White Berets came to enforce the law.
Gan Fall waved a hand calmly. "It's already done. Besides, even Enel's 'Mantra' can't detect this place. You'll be safe living here for now. Speaking of which… how is Angel Island doing?"
Pagaya blinked. "Huh?"
"I meant the crops," Gan Fall clarified. "Was the harvest good?"
Pagaya nodded. "Very good."
"That's the best news," Gan Fall said with relief.
He then brought out three cups of bright orange juice. "Here, this is pumpkin juice—freshly squeezed. It's delicious. Please, try it."
"Thank you," Pagaya said gratefully. "Conis, come drink too."
After a moment, Gan Fall asked, "Little girl, in the Blue Sea there are people called pirates. You know about them, right?"
Conis shook her head. "No."
Gan Fall chuckled. "They are criminals who sail the seas under a black skull flag. The Straw Hat boy and his crew… are most likely pirates."
"What?!" Pagaya cried. "They were criminals from the very beginning!?"
"Hehehe." Gan Fall smiled faintly. "Well, they might be illegal down in the Blue Sea. But no matter the world, there are always those who don't fit in… just like you two now."
His expression turned serious.
"Skypiea is full of unresolved conflict. The tension between the Skypieans and the Shandians continues… and the Shandians still oppose Enel."
Pagaya sighed sadly. "When you were God, you worked so hard to achieve coexistence… to end the centuries-long war and give us peace…"
Gan Fall lowered his head with regret. "We were so close… but then Enel became God. I'm very sorry… all our efforts meant nothing."
"H-Hey!" Pagaya panicked. "Please don't apologize! You don't need to!"
Gan Fall continued quietly, "There's an ancient legend in Skypiea. On the day the holy land of Upper Yard was born, a beautiful singing voice echoed through the island… and the war between Shandians and Skypieans began."
"That voice was like the signal for battle. So when that voice is heard again… this war will finally end."
He closed his eyes in hope.
"I truly believe that singing voice will definitely—"
Beep! Beep!
Gan Fall's mount, Pierre, suddenly perked up—someone was calling for help!
Gan Fall immediately donned his armor and leapt onto Pierre.
"I'll be back!" He rushed toward the emergency signal.
Back at the altar—
After Luffy and the others parted ways, Sandy and Chopper returned aboard the Going Merry. The two dug out tools and began repairing the ship.
While hammering, Chopper asked, "Sandy… is this the big world you and Luffy told me about? It's so huge I can't even imagine it!"
Sandy smiled as he laid down a new wooden plank. "Yeah. Back when you were on Drum Island, did you ever think people lived all the way up in the sky?"
"It's amazing…" Chopper's eyes sparkled as he remembered the feast and the journey.
"Hehehe! Sandy, thank you and Luffy for inviting me onto the ship back then! I love my life now—ah!!"
"What now?" Sandy turned around.
"Ow ow ow!" Chopper stared at his hoof—he had hit his own hand with the hammer.
The hammer slipped and clattered down the stone steps… stopping dangerously close to the edge of the cloud sea.
Chopper froze.
The Skypiean sharks lurked just below…
"S-Sandy… the hammer fell… down there…" he whimpered.
Sandy snorted. "Then go pick it up. Is your hand okay?"
"It's fine but…" Chopper peeked over the edge and cried, "I-I'm scared! There are big sharks!"
Sandy had to hold back laughter.
This little guy…
He sighed dramatically. "Sit. I'll get it. And with me here, what are you afraid of? I'd love if those idiots came again—more barbecue for us!"
"Sugoi!" Chopper instantly forgot his fear. "We're barbecuing again!? But… I'm too full to eat!"
Sandy stared at him.
Hopeless.
Chopper held the hammer again and asked meekly, "Sandy… am I too weak?"
Sandy nodded with zero hesitation. "Yeah. You're not just weak—you're a total scaredy-cat."
"What did you say, you bastard!?" Chopper jumped on Sandy's head, kicking and pounding. "Take it back! Apologize!!"
"Apologize for what? You asked me!" Sandy grabbed him. "Get down!"
It took a long while to settle Chopper down. Sandy sighed.
Are all animals this simple-minded?
But honestly… his simplicity was pretty charming.
Chopper then asked, "Sandy… will I ever become as strong as you?"
"What are you babbling about?" Sandy flicked his forehead. "Listen. You're a beast—no, you're Tony Tony Chopper. And I'm Sandy. Do you know how damn hard I've worked to become this strong?"
"You bastard! That's enough!" Chopper attacked again, wildly punching with his tiny hooves—no, hands.
