On the way, Sandy said, "Luffy."
"What's wrong?" Luffy asked, confused.
Sandy replied, "A lot of things might happen on this island. As the Captain, don't lose your focus."
"A lot of things might happen?" Nami asked. "Sandy, you've been acting mysterious since earlier. Do you know something?"
Sandy nodded. "I know a bit, but let's find Usopp first. We'll handle things slowly, one by one."
After speaking, he said meaningfully, "Difficult things in the world must be done starting from the easy. Remember that, you two."
"That's inexplicable…" Nami rolled her eyes.
Luffy laughed. "I don't really get it, but Sandy, you're still reassuring as ever. Hehehe…"
Sandy sighed. "Don't act dumb with me. This time, things aren't simple. This is your biggest test… but I have faith in you."
"Of course! I'm the man who's gonna become the Pirate King! Hehehe!"
Clap!
"Bingo!"
Luffy and Sandy high-fived, leaving Nami utterly bewildered.
Going Merry… none of them had ever been mentally prepared to give it up. It was their home. Now suddenly being told they had to abandon it?
Anyone would feel shaken—especially Usopp, whose attachment to the Going Merry was as deep as his bond with Kaya.
That was problem one.
The second was Robin. Her fear of the World Government originated from childhood trauma. She had never dared resist—just like Nami back in Arlong Park. Before Luffy smashed Arlong to pieces, would she ever have believed Luffy could save her?
The third issue was the internal conflict they would soon have to face among themselves.
The fourth was CP9—the World Government's shadow organization already moving behind the scenes.
Water 7 was a major trial for the Straw Hat Pirates. If they passed it, both they and Luffy would undergo a complete transformation.
Because Sandy now possessed the Rumble-Rumble Fruit and could use the weak magnetic field of the island along with his Observation Haki, he quickly found Usopp's location.
Seeing Usopp covered in wounds and unconscious, Luffy and Nami froze in shock. Sandy, on the other hand, felt a chill.
If Usopp found out the truth later… would he beat him to death?
Before Sandy could spiral any further, Luffy and Nami had already rushed to Usopp's side.
"Hey—hey!" Luffy called out, lifting Usopp carefully. "How did you get hurt this badly!? Are you okay, Usopp!?"
"Usopp!" Nami cried. "Snap out of it! Hey!!"
"Stop looking, everyone." Sandy shooed away the crowd, then walked over to lift Usopp onto his back. "Luffy, Nami, he fainted. Let's get him back to the ship. Healing comes first."
"Oh—right, right!" Luffy said. "Let's get Chopper!"
As Sandy stood, he met Nami's stare.
Is this your so-called mental training? Then why does he look like he was crushed by a damn sea train!?
Sandy quickly looked away and carried Usopp back.
When they reached the ship, Sanji and Chopper immediately ran over.
"Hey, hey—what happened to Usopp!?" Sanji demanded.
"Usopp!!" Chopper panicked. "Quick! Someone call the Doctor! Where's the Doctor!?"
"…You're the Doctor!!" everyone yelled.
Zoro jumped down from the deck, his face dark. "Who did this!?"
"The Franky Family," Nami said.
"Why!?" Chopper cried.
Sandy answered, "They stole our 200 million Belly. Usopp didn't dare tell us and went to get it back on his own. The result… is this."
Luffy said calmly, "Money doesn't matter. I'm going to get revenge."
"Whoa!!" Zoro, Sanji, and Chopper all roared in agreement.
Sandy smacked his forehead. "Didn't I say to calm down!? Especially you, Luffy! What did you say back on Jaya? You can't fight this kind of battle!"
"Why not?" Luffy asked. "Are we supposed to let Usopp get beaten for nothing?"
Sandy said, "The mastermind, Franky, already took the money and left on the Sea Train. If we go tear down his base now and beat up his family… what will he do?"
"What will he do?" Chopper blinked.
"We're Pirates, they're bounty hunters. If we kill them, can we even stay on this island?
Also, we don't have a ship anymore. And that's not even the main point. Heal Usopp first! What if he dies, you idiots!?"
Nami rolled her eyes. Usopp got beaten up because this bastard Sandy knew what was coming and didn't stop him!
But she didn't dare say it aloud. Cough, cough…
Luffy adjusted his hat. "Okay. Heal Usopp first."
"Wait," Sanji asked, "what did Sandy mean earlier when he said we don't have a ship anymore?"
"We'll talk later," Luffy said. "Usopp comes first."
After settling Usopp—who still hadn't woken up—the crew gathered on deck. The atmosphere grew heavy.
Zoro already knew the truth from when Kaku inspected the Going Merry. He simply waited for Luffy's decision.
Sanji couldn't stay quiet. "Luffy… what did Sandy mean when he said we don't have a ship anymore?"
Luffy slowly turned. "According to the shipwrights, the Going Merry can't be repaired. So… I've decided to buy a new ship."
"What!?" Chopper gasped. "No way! How could this happen!?"
Luffy smiled bitterly. "It's lucky Usopp isn't here. He definitely wouldn't be able to accept it. …Huh? Where's Robin?"
"I don't know," Sanji sighed. "Chopper and I searched the city half the day, and we didn't find her."
"Maybe she has something to do," Nami said. "Let's go inside and check Usopp's condition first…"
