Chapter 334: Flash vs. Frost
Captain Cold's Getaway
Leonard Snart cursed and swore. Seizing an opportunity, he yanked the steering wheel hard. The sedan turned ninety degrees and slid sideways down the road.
The police cars behind couldn't react in time. The lead driver's eyes widened. Just as they were about to crash, the front of their car suddenly flew up, soaring over the car in front of them and plunging into the median strip.
A ramp made of solid ice had appeared on the road.
The pursuing police cars were completely unprepared for this. One after another, they sped over the ramp like a circus stunt show, launching into the air and nose-diving into the dirt.
Seeing this, Leonard roared with laughter, shouting profanity as he stomped on the gas pedal, speeding away while the police watched on with frustrated eyes.
Soon, news of the robbery flashed across the police radio.
Barry, who was following the news, immediately set off. Using the radio information, he arrived at the scene of the robbery. When he saw the unmelted ice on the counter, he snorted in annoyance.
"Leonard Snart, it's you again."
Based on information provided by the officers at the scene, Barry Allen sped to the crash site. Seven police cars were piled up like trash on the grassy median. Nearby were dusty police officers and pointing citizens.
The scene was, to put it mildly, a bit embarrassing.
Fortunately, Barry was used to it. Police are just ordinary people; one can't expect them to handle metahumans.
Due to his previous friendly actions, Barry's relationship with the police department was good, at least on the surface.
Seeing him arrive, Sergeant Charles, whose right arm was injured, took off his hat and pointed northwest.
"He ran that way."
"Thanks!"
Barry zipped away. A few seconds later, he returned, pointed at the suit on his body, and asked the officers,
"How's my armor? Isn't it handsome?"
The crowd: "..."
Is there something wrong with this kid's head? Why is he worried about his clothes at a time like this? Still, they had to admit, the armor was indeed handsome, like something out of a comic book.
As soon as he asked the question, Barry regretted it. He quickly sped away, following the clue provided by the Sergeant. Before long, he found the robber's car abandoned in a junk yard.
The car was empty; the perp seemed to have left.
However, having dealt with Leonard Snart multiple times, Barry knew his personality well: he would never simply leave.
Sure enough, just as Barry began to search, an ice spear shot out of the ground, heading straight for his chest.
Barry flashed to the side, shouting toward the pile of junk,
"Come out, Snart! I see you!"
The response was a blast of frigid wind mixed with countless snowflakes. The temperature plummeted rapidly. The ground froze over and became covered with frost. The snowflakes in mid-air condensed into countless sharp ice blades.
The ice blades descended like a storm, blocking all paths of escape.
"You've used that trick before. It won't work on me."
Barry Allen was composed. Red current sparked around his body, and he charged straight into the blizzard. The ice blades hanging in the sky seemed like stationary objects in his perception. Unless he allowed it, the blades couldn't touch a single hair on his head.
The Red Streak crisscrossed through the snowstorm, reaching the back of the junk pile in the blink of an eye.
"Found you, Snart!"
Barry Allen didn't hesitate, swinging a punch.
Bang!
A wall of ice appeared between the two. The ice wall cracked where the punch connected, and the chilling coldness attached to the wall began to climb up his fist.
A freezing sensation came from his fingertips. Barry quickly retreated, putting distance between them.
The ground froze at a visible speed. Frost climbed up nearby objects. Ice flowers condensed, and a wave of frigid air rushed toward him, seemingly freezing the very air.
Leonard, covered in ice with blue eyes, cursed angrily,
"I knew it! That damn Flash kid, always ruining my fun!"
"How much did those cops give you? Why are you doing their dirty work?"
Barry said sternly, "This has nothing to do with the police. I'm arresting you for the sake of the ordinary people."
"To hell with ordinary people! I hate self-righteous morons like you the most! Damn superhero, just die!"
Leonard roared, pushing his hands forward forcefully. Ice condensed into dozens of ice spears. Simultaneously, the air temperature dropped precipitously. Water vapor froze into frost on the ground. As the temperature fell, the Speed Force was affected, and Barry felt that familiar sense of obstruction again.
The difference this time was the absence of bone-chilling pain.
The armor was a great piece of work! The fabric, constructed from specialized high-molecular units, had incredibly high resistance to cold. With it, Barry didn't have to be timid as before; he could commit to a full offense.
Red electricity enveloped his body!
Bang!
The ground exploded. Barry leaped up, running across one ice spear after another. In mid-air, he folded his body, grazed past a cold blade, and arrived directly in front of Leonard.
This series of actions seemed long but took only 0.1 seconds in reality.
By the time Leonard reacted, the right leg, encased in red electricity, had already slammed into his face.
Boom!
A shockwave mixed with electricity exploded in the air. Leonard screamed, flying backward, knocking over two rubber barrels before landing heavily in a pile of junk.
Barry tilted his head back, saying triumphantly,
"You're not getting away this time."
Luthor's True Target
In the Headland Villa in the East District of Metropolis.
Luke, having finished dinner, went down to the basement, quietly watching the drone feed. The video showed the battle between The Flash (Barry Allen) and Captain Cold (Leonard Snart).
The latter's fighting power was already inferior to the former, and with the new armor, the gap widened further. Facing an all-out Flash, Leonard could only take the beating.
After watching for a while, Luke turned his attention elsewhere.
"Ava, what's the situation?"
"It has begun."
Ava, in her holographic form, appeared beside him. "According to monitoring signals, Sam Lane and Lex Luthor's party arrived at their destination fifteen minutes ago. Their objective is to eliminate the mutant gorilla hiding in the sewers."
"A gorilla!"
Luke pinched the bridge of his nose, exasperated. "Why are those monkeys not staying in Gorilla City and instead causing trouble in Central City?"
"Some Central City residents have claimed online that they saw a gorilla wearing strange armor dragging homeless people into the sewers. There have been nine such incidents, but no evidence or official reports have been filed by citizens."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
A series of screenshots related to the gorilla incident appeared on the computer.
Luke quickly scanned them, pondered for a moment, and said,
"Send a few drone-rats into the sewer. I need to know what's happening down there. The monkeys aren't important; what matters are Lex Luthor, Sam Lane, and their test subjects."
"Those fools. I thought they wouldn't go through with it, but their plan is proceeding as scheduled."
