Chapter 688: I Didn't Eat You Guys!
J'onn's Mission and the Renewed Attack
The terrifying aura that lingered in the surroundings vanished. J'onn finally dared to peek out, cautiously examining the strange new world.
The sky was blue, and the ground was gray.
The endless plain was like a tomb—clean, silent, and peaceful.
"What in the world is going on?"
J'onn scratched his head, completely confused. One moment it was a sky full of fire and ground full of bones, and the next it had turned into this.
Where were the Gods? And Luke? They had all vanished.
To be cautious, J'onn circled the area. Only when he was certain there was no one else did he stop.
"I don't know what Luke did, but he certainly pulled it off."
J'onn closed his eyes. His psychic power expanded outward, establishing a connection with the world. This was a very slow process, but since no one was interfering, he could take his time.
Meanwhile, the external world also underwent a change.
The woman's body began to swell, transforming into her true form: a snail-like tentacle monster.
Seeing this, the hostile twin's eyes glowed. It immediately abandoned the chase with Clark and charged toward the Mother Entity. It could sense the state of that body—no soul, only pure flesh. This was the best opportunity to devour it.
"Stop!"
Clark roared, quickly giving chase. However, the twin was faster. Its body traversed the void, appearing directly in front of the Mother Entity.
"You are mine. You are all mine."
The twin excitedly opened its mouth and lunged like a wild beast. Suddenly, a flash of red light streaked across its vision, and a wrenching pain shot through its chest. It looked down and saw the woman clinging to its torso, shouting in fury.
"It's you again! You're stabbing me again!"
Diana wasted no words. She strained her arms, forcing the Sword of Hephaestus deep into its heart, and then brutally pulled upward.
Sizzle!
Blood gushed out, spraying everywhere.
"Human!"
The twin roared and spat a seven-colored energy column. Diana raised her arm, blocking it with her silver bracelet. The bracelet absorbed the energy and then rebounded it with even greater force.
Open!
Her right bracelet crashed into her left, detonating a powerful light impact. The shockwave turned into a white column of light that slammed into the hostile twin, blasting it backward.
"Aaaarrrggghhhh!!!!"
"Why are you stopping me? All I want to do is eat it! I didn't eat you guys!"
The hostile twin seemed overcome with rage, its body swelling into a hundred-meter giant.
Its chubby hand, like a mountain, smashed down with terrifying pressure. Diana didn't retreat but advanced, a fire in her eyes—the fierce burning of fighting spirit. A certain power within her seemed activated. Blood leaked from her palm, coating the Sword of Hephaestus and giving the pale red blade a bloody, fiery sheen.
"Cleave!"
The small figure soared into the sky, colliding with the mountain-like hand.
Pfft!
A rain of blood fell. An immense hand dropped from the sky. The wound was smooth as glass; the hand had been sliced cleanly in two.
Diana, bathed in blood, hovered in the air. The battle intent radiating from her eyes was chilling. The hostile twin instinctively backed up, then roared in enraged humiliation.
"Humans! You... you've gone too far!"
"I... I... I'm going to eat you all!"
Though its words were threatening, its tone was clearly bluster masking fear.
Diana shook the blood from her sword, staring at it expressionlessly.
"Leave, or die."
The twin's face froze. It was both terrified and infuriated. That human's eyes were too dreadful, like knives. Being stared at by her made it profoundly uncomfortable.
Seizing the moment, Clark arrived in front of the Mother Entity, standing side-by-side with Diana.
The two were like a wall. Though weakened, they gave off an impression of unbreakable tenacity.
The twin's eyes flickered. After a moment of silence, it turned and began to walk away. Just as Clark and Diana breathed a sigh of relief, the figure vanished. A roar came from behind them.
"Die!"
The twin raised its right hand. A white sharp light, the specialized attack of the Pale-Eyed Woman, erupted from its palm. The two heroes felt their skin tear before it even reached them.
Clark reacted first, shoving Diana aside and taking the attack head-on.
Pfft!
The sharp light pierced his chest. Gritting his teeth, he locked his hand onto the twin's right arm, firing his maximum-power heat vision into the twin's eyes, causing it to howl in pain.
Diana roared and lunged, slicing off its right arm. She then hurled the Lasso of Truth, binding its body.
"Clark, how are you?!"
"I'm fine. I'm not going to die."
Clark sucked in a breath, pulling the light blade from his chest. Blood spurted like a fountain. Diana quickly activated her armor's healing system to staunch the wound.
The blow was more than just a surface injury; the residual energy was still tearing at Clark's body. He wouldn't mention it. The situation had reached a point of no return: it was fight or die.
The two returned to the Mother Entity, once again forming that wall. Clark sighed softly.
"I wonder how they're doing."
"No better, no worse."
"Let's hope so."
The Inferno of Souls
In the World of Green Flame, a world-shattering war was raging.
One side consisted of the residual souls of various Gods. The other was Luke and the army of flame ghosts he commanded.
The two sides clashed fiercely on the flame-covered plain. All kinds of energy waves swept across the heavens and the earth, threatening to tear the world apart.
The Flame Ghosts were unique products of the Green Flame World—vengeful spirits who died to the green flame, and the flame itself. They had no consciousness, no will; they were like an army of insane fighting machines.
One flame ghost might be nothing, but thousands upon thousands of them gathered together possessed enough power to chill the blood of a God.
The residual Gods became fuel one after another, but the army of flame ghosts slowly increased. They seemed infinite, pouring in from all corners of the world to join this unique welcoming party.
The tide slowly turned in Luke's favor. Sensing the imbalance, the residual Gods split into two teams: one to hold back the army of flame ghosts, and the other to launch a fierce assault on Luke.
Luke drew his bow, his gaze coldly fixed on the front. Flames spiraled behind him, forming a substantialized torrent of heat.
Every time the bowstring sang, a God fell.
The ghostly green arrow had become the Grim Reaper's scythe, indiscriminately harvesting the lives of his enemies.
The scenes chilled the residual Gods to the bone, making them feel an urge to flee.
Luke, in the Green Flame World, was completely amplified. Everything around him was subject to his will. With a single thought, thousands of fire dragons could form. This was his world. He was the King of this world.
The arrow light flew, and in moments, over two hundred Gods had fallen. The remaining Gods couldn't help but demand,
"Who exactly are you, and what do you want? We don't have to do this."
Luke said nothing, continuing to draw his bow.
Another God spoke. "Even if you don't care about us, you should think about your companions outside. Can they hold off that infant? What if something goes wrong?"
Luke paused. His brow twitched slightly, and a flicker of expression crossed his face.
